unlike the Tetons, the trails here are no bueno right now. Hasn't been any appreciable rain in forever. In the meantime the climbing has been awesome, and the granite seems to be holding up well.

^^^Trails are just fine on the North shore. You need to get out of that sandbox down there.
Did the recent storm (or overnight moisture with colder temps) cut down on the moon dust? I haven't been up to Truckee in two weeks but last I was there it was still pretty sloppy. There's going to be a lot of braking bumps and berms to clean up next spring.Quote:

Hopefully UCSF is not planning on doing too much to the Sutro forest; its eligible for the national register of historic places. I'm guessing that the UC has a policy related to that; whether they follow that policy is another story. They tried to get funding for thinning under the disguise of wildfire hazard, but the funding was yanked because the hazard was too low.Quote:

UC and the native plant folks are constantly chipping away for their own agendas. UC probably sees eventual development in some of the land and the Native folks want all the eucalyptus gone. I've lived next to the Forrest for almost 20 years. I love riding the new trails but the thinning has definitely effected the canopy and its wetness. Hopefully it will not lose any more trees but I think I just got another postcard about some new plan.
If people want to affect development of sutro forest, consider having it listed on the state and national registers of historic places. Also, i believe that the analysis that concluded that there was minimal fire hazard in the forest also conclude (theorised?) that thinning the forest could result in increasing the fire hazard.

When they are loose as shit because it never rains and they aren't well constructed... yeah. Okay, so maybe they'd be fun in early spring and late fall so it's more like 2 months they'd be any good, but beyond that it's kind of a waste. I'm talking steep enough that if you squeezed tight on your brakes you still wouldn't be able to stop.Quote:

Usually I would agree but this year it seems that the trail runners have been getting out really early and I keep running into them on high speed descents. I've come so close to near catastrophic collisions a couple of times that it almost it takes the fun out of getting out that early. It seems that the only time you can get out and jam is at night when there are no walkers, runners and hunters.Quote:
