Fucking finally.
 I'm staying IN Squaw Village Fri night and will be right at KT-22 first thing in the am on Saturday
....after I square my kids away. :rolleyes2
Checked snow reports at 6am... flip-flopped on goin' (I have a bad case of snow snobia)... got to Sierra shortly after 9am, thanks to a couple Safeway trucks and tourons on Hwy 50... bluebird... high 20's all day. 5" on normal runs (I don't do 'em)... upwards of 10" in the trees.
Hit Jack's trees for 9 laps... I had 90% of the tracks... it was sweet! Then over to West Bowl for some more untracked trees runs. Not a bad b-day (last 2 years were much mo' betta)/
Vertical Plus paid for itself today too... 8 gazillion people in line, and I shot to the front every time :) According to the VP website, I got 21K' vert from 9-1.
Beer tastes good.
i'm working both days unfortunately. but mr. dallas will be there.Quote:

MAJOR STORM TO PUMMEL THE SIERRA AND WESTERN NEVADA FRIDAY AND SATURDAY. AN IMPRESSIVE MOISTURE PLUME TO TAKE AIM AT THE REGION BEGINNING EARLY FRIDAY MORNING. UNFORTUNATELY...ONCE AGAIN THIS IS GOING TO BE A WARM STORM WITH SNOW LEVELS RAPIDLY RISING TO NEAR 8000 FEET BY FRIDAY AFTERNOON AS PRECIP INTENSIFIES IN THE SIERRA. HEAVY PRECIP WILL OCCUR FROM FRIDAY LATE AFTERNOON THROUGH SATURDAY EARLY AFTERNOON. IMPRESSIVE PRECIP TOTALS COULD BE AS HIGH AS 6-8 INCHES OF LIQUID IN THE SIERRA. THE PROBLEM IS MOST OF THAT WILL FALL AS RAIN BELOW 7500-8000 FEET. WILL UPGRADE THE WINTER STORM WATCH TO A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR ELEVATIONS ABOVE 7000 FEET IN TAHOE AND KEEP THE WATCH FOR MONO AS PRECIP TO START THERE A BIT LATER. 3-5+ FEET OF SNOW IS NOT OUT OF THE QUESTION ABOVE 8000 FEET WITH 12-18" DOWN TO 7000 FEET ONCE SNOW LEVELS DROP SATURDAY MORNING. IN ADDITION TO THE SNOW...WIND GUSTS OVER THE RIDGES COULD ONCE AGAIN EXCEED 100+ MPH CREATING WHITEOUT CONDITIONS.
A point by point reiteration of huck and basom's posts:
1. Today ruled.
That's pretty much it. The wind was blasting up the headwall, so the Slot was loaded and buffed with a couple big thigh-deep arcs up top down to perfectly buffed goodness on the lower section. Fucking money. Then again, the super-fast Sun Bowl to wind-stuffed CII chutes run stands out, and not just because basom attempted to take out new board member samson right above CII. On the other hand, Funnel to Shirley Chutes and over to GC pretty much blew my mind as well... Oh, and Dead Tree... Yep, today ruled.
G, give me a call if you want to go skiing this weekend.
Roll call for tomorrow at Squaw?
*raises hand*
Was anyone still at Squaw when Headwall face slide and buried someone?

Yeah, I was skiing down hogsback when it happened. I went over and tried to help out at first but there were 20 patrollers there within minutes. I've never seen anything like that at Squaw.Quote:

Snowing lightly at 6700 in TD. Maybe I should not have taken the pow skis out of the car.
Wind has picked up in the last hour.
For some reason I decided to go to Squaw on the busiest day of all time (today).
Crowds were hell in the lodges and on the gaper freeway, but otherwise no problem. Snow was really good up top, and the wind kept it going, Mammoth style. I think there was an avalanche on headwall in the afternoon.

I heard four burials, not sure if full or partial. All made it out ok, or so I've heard.Quote:

So Kirkwood was so crowded you guys couldn’t ski on a powder day? Man that sucks.
And here I thought the trailhead was crowded at 6:45am with eight cars.
Ps. the pow was sweet. :)
You were up early but waited?!?! Paging Kush...please get out here and slap your brother upside the head.Quote:

Well, I guess the snow level is rising a little quicker than they thought. As of 7am it was raining at 6,500 ft and it is still raining.
"I love the rain, it washes memories off the sidewalks of life."
Name the actor and movie.
(The rain, it is making me crazy :nonono2: )
Yeah, starting to rain in Trucktown. Unless it has been and I haven't noticed. What a chafe.
10 am and per websites all at Rose is on hold and the only real lift open at Squaw is KT-22. I shudder to think of the line if it's the only lift running.
Dude, Pony Ride I and II are going off right now.
10am update, Cohee says Cornice and 10 are both open and snowing steadily.
You are correct Steve. I should have clarified my post: lifts that don't intimidate me are closed except KT and Squaw 1.Quote:

Ps. we did 4 laps in the flat tress and only crossed a couple tracks all day. It was rad. How were your turns? Oh wait…you sat in your car for 1.5 hours and then were turned away from the resort. :fmicon:
Ski ya later! :)

I am putting my bets with Freshies.....my new years eve plans just got a bit more mellow. I want to get those first 3 hours of empty mountain powder skiing.Quote:

To hell with the winds...we need some colder air! The scent of pineapples is overwhelming here on the West slope. :cussing:
Are you going to post the exact same pictures in every thread? Because it's pretty fucking annoying.Quote:

So, I went to Alpine today hoping to beat the rising snow level. At 9am, it was raining at the top of Alpine Bowl Chair. Snow was heavy, but soft enough to make fun turns. (The LPs slayed the heavy snow with ease.)
Summit opened between 10am -10:30am. We got some friends to watch the kids. So, Mrs. Stormday and I skied a few Summit laps together. The lift rides were pretty nasty. It was stinging frozen granular about half way up Summit. The reward was untracked snow in sun spot with ok visibility.
The temp did seem to be dropping while we were skiing.
By noon, it was switching between snow and rain at the bottom of Alpine. I was thinking about heading back out, when Mrs informed me that it was time to get the kids home. I had to brush some super wet snow off the car.
It was definitely a day that having the right gear made all the difference. Hopefully, everything will dry out for tomorrow and it will continue to snow at Alpine’s base.
Let's hope the fucking RAIN dies down.Quote:

There was plenty of TC parking spots and we spent the day lappin 7 (RAD), and I got Ole introduced to poles, tree skiing and tabletops. Pics to follow.
Skied Kirkwood this morning....
Got there at 8:15 am in the RAIN....to make sure I could park the car and GET FIRST TRACKS!
Rolled Chair 5 for the first run while waiting for 6 to open. Raining on the top of 5, but milky fast snow back to 6.
6 opened and rolled some fast slushish-pow down Zachs, Sentinel, Oops, etc. Basically, the top half had new snow and buttery smooth, but then at mid-mountain it turned to pretty much slush.
Went over to 10, it was sort of snowing, more like freezing rain, windy as fuck at the top, and hit the ridge down to waterfall and it was $$$$$ smooth....so we did it again.....and then it was 12:00 pm.....TIME TO LEAVE THE RAINFOREST MASSIVE!
It was 34 F at the base when we left, almost mid 40's in South Lake....
Getting some skis mounted as we speak....
Tomorrow is going to be DEEP, as in TAHOE DEEP, as in LAKE TAHOE DEEP, as in the ACTUAL LAKE, as in WATER DEEP, because its BARELY SNOWING at 10,000 feet!

i hope this thread dies.
tahoe sucks my ass right now.:fuckyou: :cussing:
