Just spent 2 days on the current (outgoing) Noctas
These are fantastic when things are somewhat soft. Not chop destroyers, but reasonable. Caught inside edge on the runouts but other than that they are a dream.
Just got a few days on mine and concur completely. They actually surprised me in how well they handle chopped up snow. They definitely like big turns in chop, but they’re surprisingly stable at speed. I have kingpins on mine and that’s the bigger limiter in choppy snow than the skis.
Obviously in deep and untracked snow they’re incredible.
ops. I might have ended up buying a different pair of the new Atris in 184.3 from the same shop. They seemed a bit stiffer than the other pair too, so yay.
Any input on different mounts? I've seen that Schirmer went +1, but I am hesitant to go further into the relatively softer shovels than rec.
I am also closer than ever to finally resign and just get a pair of 185 Nocta v2s, so I must stay strong. Their price is lower than ever though...
I just bought a pair of the 2022 Nocta v1.5s (the one with the 26m radius)... come join the orange side...
I would mount them on the line. 189 I would go forward one but the 184 is good on the line.
as for the nocta, buy the 190 if you weigh anything more then 175 and are taller then 5’9”. Shit I’d even buy it in that size if you were a ripper and smaller. That ski needs a 196 length and could use a 202.
Did it change other than the stated graphic though?
I ended up caving and buying the last pair of 19/20 Noctas in 185 that they had in stock. Probably my least favorite Nocta graphic other than the new limited release one, but oh well - it doesn't really matter.
thanks for the thoughts on mount point. I've grown used to progressive mounts with strong tails so I am not afraid of the tails being too much, rather that I move too far forward into the softer shovels killing my ability to drive the skis. On the line it is.
Yeah, I prob should've went with 190s, but figured I should go for max wiggle factor at 175cm/70kg aka no clyde. After all, these are not heavy, burly skis - so thought I should play to their strengths, even if they might ski a bit short. Time will tell.
I do not really plan for either ski to make their way into the "permanent" quiver, I just want to test them - but we'll see :)

SoVT Joey can correct me here, but I believe the OG Noctas (v1) did not have reverse camber. v1.5 is the version you and I bought, reverse camber and 26m radius (this should perhaps be v2). v2 is the 2023 version, reverse camber and 21m radius (this should be v2.5). v3 is the 2024 cambered version that just came out.
I'm 172cm/68kg and went with the shorty 178 (rounding up!) model. Realize it'll ski short, even for my tiny ass, but think it'll be super fun in trees/tight spots at that length. I'll also be touring on them so wanted to keep it nimble and light.
Ya. And somewhere in there was the nocta air too. Last years different radius was just a miss print that stayed.
i have just found them to ski super short. I wish for a 200. My 190 is a blast in the tight trees though that’s for sure. The only thing I noticed was the tail seemed short on the 185 so balance was key, the 190 let’s me drive it a little more and allows me to recover from shit I shouldn’t be doing.
God damn. Guess I need to buy a pair of Noctas and CAST them.
I went all-in and purchased the 190cm 2024 Nocta. Now have to wait until it snows here (Australia/NZ) before I can take them out, so am super interested to hear any insights from those who have skied them.
Also weighing up what binding I put on them, #1 priority is hold and performance on the downhill, #2 priority is occasional touring. I currently run ATK Freeraider 14 on the Black Crows Solis but am thinking Cast Pivot 15 for the Nocta. Thoughts?
There was the original nocta with
camber, v1, then they built the air off that v1.5, then the nocta that we know that’s full rocker, v2, then last year they screwed up and put a different radius on the ski in printing there was no change to the actual ski, so the 21m is the same as the 26m. So that is v2.5, then they just made the new one so that’s version 3.
kidkapow could probably find it, but there was a mpora catalog at one point with the 2021/22 nocta, the orange and cream one with 21m radius tails. I screen shot it and asked about it. They said it was a mistake then too.
I like my Duke Pt on my nocta and would mount cast if I liked pivots with out a doubt. I just plum guides on my solis so it kind of sounds like we are after the same thing. I do have a ferox with yaks so I haven’t really wanted to do full techs on my nocta yet, but I have been tempted to quiver kill my noctas for yaks as well.
Anyone have insight into Nocta vs Volkl Revolt as far as which will handle heavy Sierra snow better?
Nocta 1 was 2012-2015: 18m radius and "dual rocker," no reverse camber
Nocta Air came out in 2016: same overall shape but with a lighter core that dropped ~500g per ski. Tail rocker was tweaked a bit.
Nocta 2 was 2017-2021: full reverse, 26m radius, 150g lighter per ski than the Air
Nocta "2.5" was 2022-2023: stated radius reduced to 21m, but no changes to the dimensions/shape
Nocta 3 debuted for 2024: camber re-added (similar to Gen1), 19m radius.
this?
The debate over the 21m radius started with this post.
First few runs on the Atris today. Surprisingly adapt at variable given their weight, though not terribly surfy at their current tune. I found them to have flappy tips at higher speeds on hard snow, that their wider tips sometimes wanted to float more than the tails wanted to, and that they were somewhat turny in softer snow. I totally understood what SkiEssentials meant when they say it is a light ski that feels heavier. Biggest decrator: feeling like a Schirmer fanboy / copycat since I also wear a Norrøna Tamok jacket... ;)
I have no problem understanding why a lot of people like these as a daily driver or one ski quiver. I have no idea why FriFlyt hated them - they seem like fine skis to me.
I look forward to and it will be fun to try them b2b with Noctas tomorrow.
Ok so first pow day on the new nocta… float is there. Easy to maneuver in tight spots and overall a pretty good time. The main thing that jumped out to me however is that they felt a bit hooky (maybe due to the 19m radius?) I didn’t get a ton of runs in to due the back wearing out faster than I thought. I will post again once I have more days on them.
Side note. I snagged a pair of the old Nocta (2022) locally for $350 in plastic. Going to mount them up and AB test them. Anyone go back a touch on the mount? I’m 6’1 205 and I remember some complaining of tip dive.
I got a dust on crust day on the new limited release Noctas and love them. Didn't find them hooky at all but you have to somewhat aggressively de-tune the tips and tails. I want to say they're a little more groomer friendly than the previous version but without skiing them back to back it's hard to tell. My buddy with the same BSL has the previous ones so we'll A/B test them on the same day sometime soon.
as long as its a 190 for your size I would mount it on the line. You could probably go back one, but I’ve never had tip dive on my 190. Shit, they are hard to sink period. I’m on the line and I’m 190ish and 5’11. I like to drive a ski fairly aggressively as well.
kid- ya exactly that one. Hmmm lotta weed between then and now. I’m excited to hear your take tomorrow on the nocta atris shootout.
I’m 6’1”, 170 on 185 Noctas (V2, 26m radius) mounted OTL 306 BSL and like them there. No tip dive

I don’t know how BCs calculates their published turn radius but my 193 Corvus don’t ski like a 21 m ski. Seems like a much straighter ski.
Is it just a number that they think it feels like or is there an actual calculation?

I ended up not skiing the Atris at all today, A-B'ed Noctas and K2 Dispatch 120 186s instead.

Noctas are fun. They are not as chargy/capable in variable as Dispatch 120s imho, but they can still rally plenty hard with a forward to centered stance, while popping off stuff and slarving with ease. Nearly had a double eject after getting hung up / plating myself in a depression.
They do not have the effortless unsinkable float of BMT122s or ON3P C&Ds imho, but still float very well for their mount point. Great pow / soft snow ski imho. I've not skied them in deep fresh yet, though it seems like speed and a slight adjustment to the stance should make them more than capable enough. Happy that I went with 185s.
They actually do well on groomers, if not as well as the metal induced D120s.
I (unsurprisingly) really like them, though they would prob be even better / more versatile with a bit of camber ;)
I will say, as others have said, that the Noctas ski short for sure. I originally had 185's and loved them but wanted a little more in front of my boot so went up to 190's. And honestly the 190's don't feel nearly as long as other 190 skis I've been on, such as the Moment Wildcats. I'm 5' 11" / 185 - 195 pounds.
oh, and got to fondle some 181 Dracos today too. They were surprisingly supportive - def no noodles. Their shape and flex pattern should be just what Lusti and Schirmer has been wanting - lighter than Animas, but wider than the Atris while still being supportive. Very, very interesting ski.
I will see if I can demo them tomorrow.
oh, and yes - a local BC rep mentioned that he much preferred the v1 and v3 Noctas over v2s, so it will def be interesting to hear more on how people get along with theirs :)
I got to ski Draco 181s today. They skied fine, the ATK RentMes that were mounted on them made it kinda hard to tell as we did not get along. They released easily, were happy at speed on groomers and were easy to control off piste. They were mounted at -1, supposedly the spot Schirmer recommends they be mounted. I would love to try a Castified pair - that might very well be a setup I prefer over the Atris. They are fairly supportive, but easy to ski. I would not be surprised if they sell these by the boat load.
The Atris did not handle the heavily wind buffed pow we had in spots today with aplomb. I think I need to aggressively detune fore/aft of the contact points.
I also got to try Anima 189s. They were fun going straight, but a lot of work / noticeably heavy at slower speeds and when noodling around. I prefer MFree-118 to them by a mile - you loose no top end speed, but way less swing weight and equally strong on edge make MF118s easier to get along with imho. They did not have 182s, if they did I would have tried them as well.
And yes, the biggest takeaway is that I hate demo binders ;)
That’s probably why I like them so much. 25-30 meters is my sweet spot

Will you get a chance to A/B with the v3?
sadly, no - not any time soon.
The camber comment above was made in jest. I bought these specifically as they are reverse camber, long radius skis. I have no real interest in the new ones.
The Noctas will fill the quiver slot of a wider playful easy-to-ski ski, a ski to contrast my Koala 119s, a very beefy ski
I went amok on the edges of my Atris tonight, will see if it helps.
It's my experience that this is a must on most rockered tips and tails, maybe more so on Crows. The Animas lost a lot of twichyness after detuning the edges on the rockered portions. Heck, on Anima, detuning only the edge portions sans steel will make for a noticeable difference, but round off the steel as well for better results.
Can someone give me the skinny on the Corvus?… and the just tell me to buy it. Chargy but pivoty? Sounds wonderful.
The Corvus is great. Jack of all trades and master of none. It’s Chargy, playful and can trench soft groomers. Surprising amount of energy in 3d snow, almost poppy. Handles crud, crust and hard wild snow well. Decent float in knee deep snow, better as it settles. They’re very quick.
