If CC was pine forest it would be long gone.
Holy shit. Hopefully they got it mopped up before this wind, and the rain actually comes through.
Between the smoke and dust Utah County looked like Bladerunner this afternoon. It was pretty depressing after five days in Crested Butte's lush landscape and pristine air.
Marshall and another buddy did a ride with the climb up Mineral a few years ago. Type 3 fun, for sure.

Going to be in Park City for 2.5 days. What should we hit? Deere Valley Bike park worth it?
Going to be the Wife and I, we are fit and able. One day we should have all day the other 1.5 will be shorter.
I posted some good loops a few pages back. Some others: One day I would park at the canyons, ride the bike path to PCMR, up Armstrong to pine cone to the wasatch crest back down to the canyons, over Mid mountain to insurgent down. A classic with stellar views. Another would be Silver lake deer valley out mid mountain, up team big bear, up flagstaff to empire pass, 9k trail over to Black Forest, down that to mid mountain over to johns down to town. Lots of options. When are you coming?

I hit Days Fork this am, 2 snow crossings, but other than that was GTG. Twin Lakes Pass was also clear.
how come none of you told me how fun riding a bike around the foothills was?? this morning was outstanding. bobsled is as fun as in between but it’s ~2 miles from my house. lol
Since you've got a condo at the Canyons, its 100% worth it to do the Armstrong/pinecone/crest/canyons. Depending on fitness, it could be an all day ride, ends up around 4k ascent, and in the 20-30 mile rane. Download trailforks, everything is on there.
Deer valley is fun for lift serve, lots of flow/jump trails and some good tech mixed in, I enjoy riding lifts there once every 2-3 years, since everything is pedal able from various areas in PC.
Millcreek winter gate is open, and the dirt on Big Water trail up to Dog Lake is as good as it gets. 1 tree down in an obvious spot on a straightaway.Attachment 333307
Bit of a thread drift, but anyone have suggestions for rides in the Stanley area? I’ve done most of the rides around Ketchum but never made it up to Stanley. Looks like little/big casino is amazing but probably too much for the gf.
haven't rode it personally but that ride that is like a 4-5 mile road climb than a singletrack descent seems really popular. Looks like it's called williams creek.
Fisher/Williams creek loop is a great ride.
Lots of other options but longer than fisher/Williams creek in the Stanley area. There are a few shorter rides but they seem pretty forgettable compared to the epic loops. Riding any part of redfish lake (loop or out n back) is cool as that lake is super beautiful.
Galena summit is worth checking out. Lots of shorter loop options closer to Ketchum if you're in that area too.
Love me some potato miles!
Sweet, I plugged that ride into the planning section on Trailforks so we have a good route to look back at. It looks like you can either Stay on the Crest or drop in to Mill Creek Meadows. Whats the preferred rout there?
We did a ride last weekend with 3500' vert in 15 miles so we should be ready for it. The altitude and temps will be a bit higher though.
Agreed on the overwhelming spiderweb....
Thinking we will do the above ride on Saturday and maybe bike park on Sunday... Hoping everyone is hungover from the 4th.... We have time a 1-2 hour ride on Friday when we get in if anyone has any recommendations.
1-2 hours, ride up jenni's trail, up tommy 2 steps, descend Mojave to CMG, fast and ripping, or if its not too hot, climb rosebuds haven to robs and descend ambush, or continue up ambush to mid mountain over to insurgent for some rowdy goodness.
For the crest, you'll want to stay right at the millcreek meadows trail, on the crest. otherwise you'll end up with a little climbing (minimal) back up great western to get back to the canyons. Would be easy to not stop and end up bombing all the way to salt lake through Millcreek.
Did the crest ride you suggested. Good ride for sure. Great views and good pitch to the climb. Red Coat - Insurgent - Ricochet was fun.
Still thinking lift bumps to get the most in tomorrow. Any must hit trails over there?
Observation: Some angry old white ladies around these parts....
When I am taking kids down overt there, Tidal wave and undertow are the two flow / jump trails they gravitate towards. Other options that don’t take you back to a chair, Dark Forest, Rasberry, Evil Empire. If your looking for a fun two hours back to your Condo, traverse Mid mountain back to the canyons and loop in Iron Man. Everything is pretty crowded as it looks like a lot of tourists came in despite the parade and fire works being cancelled. Hope you're having fun. I hit the Armstrong Pine Cone Crest loop yesterday at 5:30 am and it was in pretty good shape. Not to much dust on top yet!
DV has some old school DH trails and some new flow trails. Oddly things are divided lower mtn and upper by a small hill, so keep that in mind as it's not continuous top to bottom.
Upper trails are great, Thieves Forest and Fire Swamp are old school techy. For jump lines warm up on Tidal Wave, if that is too easy go to Tsunami next. Lower mountain has the old National DH course, NCS, which is a full-face / pads run, and one flow trail called Undertow. Undertow is fun but not hard. I like Old School to Pointy Rocks lower mountian, devo is annoying.
Canada1, wtf? Ha.
Haven’t left the condo other than to ride or hike around with the kid and my sister who we are visiting. Thinking the resort might be more people than we want to deal with so maybe some pedaling again tomorrow. Drove through downtown out of curiosity last night... shit ton of people for sure.
Fair, but the webcams show not one person on the lift (subject to change instantly) and they are limiting sales : https://www.deervalley.com/explore-the-mountain/webcams
Ms Boissal and I rode a Crest loop from PC starting at the crack o' noon yesterday, I have never seen that many people out and about. Riding up Armstrong felt harder than ever due to the constant chatting with hikers and other bikers, "hey, how are you, thanks for letting me sneak by, it's just me, have a great hike" repeated 150 times eventually takes it out of you... Not much traffic above mid mountain but the crowds on the lower mountain were for real...
Pleasant day up high:

Went for a chunky trail twofer on Friday, Honeycomb to Beartrap, lots of dirt road grinding followed by teeth-chattering tech. The rock garden is definitely no worse than the last time I rode it but as others have said upthread, it's different every time...

I rode at 630pm on the fourth and it was the quietest I've seen the trails all year. Super pleasant.
That's an excellent double-tap. Bravo, sir.
I was on the dusk patrol program for most of my weekend rides last year. Most people must ride early on weekends because it was usually really quiet, alone at the top of Puke Hill quiet.
Thanks! Funny that it was almost the same vert as riding Crest from Olympic park but will half the miles. The climb to the top of Soli is a such beast. Grinds your soul into the dust...
Post work is usually my go-to time and I usually fairly deserted. On the 4th even more so as I imagine most people were full of beer and sausage and actively trying to blow themselves up or burn their yards down.
On another note I'm impressed how few fucks the Canyons have to give about their trail systems. Even taking COVID into consideration the fact that there still are downed trees on most of their trails a month after the snow melted is really weird. Makes me wonder if they had anything to do with the cleanup on Insurgent or if it was done by motivated riders. I bet if you left a tire mark on one of the greens at the bottom of Ricochet they'd have 6 lawn experts on the case within an hour...
Vail gives negative fucks about bikes. A friend who lives in Gunnison is genuinely concerned that they are going to kill off the CB bike park.
A number of the tree falls at the canyons are new in the last two weeks. That said, the contrast in the condition of trails in deer valley and the Olympic park to everything in between is sharp.
Makes sense, revenue from 1 golfer is probably the same as that of 100 mountain bikers.
The ones on Alpine Lake have been there the whole season. Not the most remarkable trail but considering how much they trashed MM with all their construction it's a nice option... There was a new tree down on Pinecone yesterday, can't imagine it will be there for more than 48 hours.
There are some spots @ Canyons where it feels like they brought in gravel and dumped it everywhere, next level looseness.
Whistler is a gold mine for them, I don’t think that’s a worry.
I'm sure Whistler will be just fine. It's the exception that proves the rule.
It is strange how Vail (locally)ignores the long lines at deer valley. I think the local resorts have hoodwinked corporate into believing it cannot be profitable. Selfishly there are fewer people riding down at me fast when I’m climbing, so it’s all good.
I have now been confronted by two groups of older women about riding on the trail from the top of moose puddle to Robs. I wander what hiking forum is claiming it is one way? I think they don’t realize Robs ends. I am tired of the negativity. I think rather than telling them the names of the people at the Olympic Park they can complain to about me, I’m going to go with the “I don’t speak english”., route, and just pedal away. I do keep encountering e bikes on the crest? There is no way to enforce the rules, so I think the people riding them just don’t care.
The Olympic connector?? That's ridiculous, that thing is as bi-directional as it gets, how else are you supposed to connect to mid-mountain? And the trail is nice and wide, no way to even scare a hiker on there even if you're riding way too fast... Old Karens need to learn that they don't have the run of the place and politely asking them to displace their geriatric asses 2' to the side isn't a violation of their constitutional rights. If you pretend not to speak English they'll probably tell you to go back where you came from though and get even more angry.
I generally feel bad for hikers in Park City though. The place is absolute shit for them, there isn't a single trailhead down low that gets them anywhere pleasant in a reasonable mileage and most of the hiking they get to do is on dusty ass trails in muggy forest. Poor fuckers from out of town trying to hike with family on Armstrong spend their entire hike getting out of the way of uphill traffic. If they chose Spiro or CMG they get mowed down by fast traffic. Their best option is to drive up to Guardsman but even there the bike traffic is pretty high.
I have been stopped on the connector twice, (Is it still called Hi Ute?)once going each way by angry older ladies telling me I am not allowed to descend. I don't climb robs despite it being very close to our house. Too much traffic for me.
I do climb or descend moose puddle and stuff all around Robs most days.
