Katana 108 - the resurrerection
Isn’t the 177 K108 18-m under foot? The 184 M102 is 20-m underfoot. Also, the delta between the large tip and tail radius and the underfoot radius is more noticeable on the Katana (at least to me) and the delta between those on the M102 is more subtle. It makes the skis feel different in how they set an edge, at least in the 184-cm length.
The 191 M102 has a 22-m radius underfoot. I really want to experience that before it is updated.

Been hanging around in a few ski shops and more than a few people have said the K108 turns/releases easier than an M102?
Still haven’t been on my new K108s. Deep pow has left Whistler. Been spending time on the M-Free 99 and Blade in the low tide.

Shit re-frozen snow over most of Whistler. Some ok chalky sections. Nasty getting into stuff as there are weird frozen narrow ass impossible bumps in the entrances. The entrance to Whistler Bowl was so f’ed on Sat. Funny watching the tourists trying to get in.
Didn’t ski today cause of conditions.
What I find each ski day is that the group I ski with does not ski wide open bowls. Like maybe 1 run in a day. We hardly ski Harmony and never ski Symphony when at Whistler.
Sadly this means I left the K108s in the rocket box. Again. The M-Free 99 and Enforcer 104 (both great skis for tight, techy terrain) got the nod as they are both so user friendly where we ski in low-tide, bad conditions. And it’s a pain in the ass to change skis 1/2 way through day at Whistler.
Still trying to figure out when the f Im gonna use these?!
They do look purdy and badass though.
Legs getting into shape.
One day I’ll suck it up and rip these.
Or I’ll sell the shit out of them.

Other than 2 runs to compare these with my blaze, I haven't skied anything else yet this year and haven't wished for a different ski than I was on, so far.
The caveat to that is I haven't had a legitimate powder day yet this year... only some stashes.
I appreciate that you love these. You don’t ski out west, you aren’t some big bruiser, and you’re not skiing the biggest TGR-certified length. But you totally dig the skis. Nothing wrong with that. Provides a more diverse perspective.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, my 6’ 2”, 220-lb buddy finally skied his 191’s. He told me he now understands why I gushed about the K108 all last season.

Dalbello Krypton 130s.
Totally irrelevant here now as I sold my K108s/Pivots this week (unskied) to buy the new Atomic BC 110 (2023’s) and some 4FRNT Ravens.
Was a tough decision. To sell unskied, beautiful, bad-ass skis. But that can happen in a 10-ski quiver.
And I just got 20% off code for 4FRNT on the Ravens + 4-Lock skin system which “allowed” me to lose a bit on the K108s. Plus I sold them to a young guy who just arrived in Whistler from Spain. He was pumped. Karma credit to pass on skis to help a young guy.
Carry on.

This is a love/hate convo because we’re all trying to be a part of your hobby of buying and selling skis but it’s clear you also don’t ski them.
Do I care about your Raven review?I want to. I want the raven. But your credibility as a reviewer is dropping fast because you don’t ski new gear.
You buy it. And then you sell it.
Dude. You worked so hard and now you’re losing trust as a reviewer.
Bummer.

Gaijin,
Appreciate you have an opinion about me….based solely on tgr.
I think it takes more balls to publicly admit you bought the wrong ski and then do something about it. I sold some 2022 K108s at a $100 loss to buy 2022 Ravens at 20% off.
The Ravens will get skiied. And reviewed.
PS buy some new bindings for your M102s already.
KC.

Re Gaijin’s comment that I don’t ski my skis….it’s very true that I don’t ski some of the skis that I re-sell. Cause I don’t want those skis? So why ski them.
It’s easier (and more profitable) to sell “never been skied” mint skis, than ones that even have just a few days on them.
I know what I like. K108s would have been a good quiver ski for me (outside my normal style of ski). But expensive to keep just to satisfy my curiosity about -11cm mounted skis.
And the tight, steep terrain we ski is more conducive to my M-Free 99s, E104s, Blanks that have been getting all the use this season.
Plus I do get a rush out of owning cool skis. Ya I know I can seem arrogant about buying this ski, selling that ski….but I’m honest about it.
Life’s way too short to ski skis you don’t want. If I’m not “Hell yeah” when I go to grab a ski, then I get rid of it. The K108 never made me feel like “Hell yeah”? And the opportunity arose to sell them and at the same time pull the trigger on some cheaper Ravens. Read the K108 thread compared to the M-Free discussion in the Dynastar thread. Way more stoke for ripper skis that are maneuverable, like the M-Free.
But I’m still interested in this thread….
And now I’m also interested in driving Gaijin insane.
Re the Ravens. I’ve always been a huge 4FRNT fan. Have owned a Hojis, InThaynes, Devs, MSPs, Rens in the past. Just bought some 2022 Rens with Duke PTs. Ravens have been on my radar since 2016. Have some extra Duke PTs that would fit new Ravens. My CPA firm is called Forefront Consulting Ltd for chrissake! So Gaijin if I deduct the 20% off 4FRNT/Forefront Ravens as advertising expense….I actually made money on that swap.
I do 50-60 ski days a year at Whistler and the Powder Highway. Some years 70-80.
Gaijin, anytime you’re in BC look me up and I’ll ski with you.
Or in front of you.

PS….I do work my ass off. Full-time prof at a university, I own a CPA firm, and do consulting…. I went to school for a shit ton of years to be able to do that.
I gave away an “almost paid off house” in a divorce in 2014. In Vancouver. That house then went up 60%. Everyone’s life can be tough. Do I enjoy quiver building? And can I do it cause she got the house and I kept my cash flow. Yup. My ski gear swapping’ prolly costs $2-$3k per year. I fucking love it.
And then I got re-married to a wicked skier. Who owned a house in North Van.
Which is called karma Gaijin.
Ok back to the K108 thread!
