Things are getting very exciting around here.
Ha. My son must of got a hold of the phone an posted up some stoke.
BTW, KW announced it opens This Friday (edit, as this is a repeat...)
edit: and their snow phone is in full spin mode, claiming they are opening "a full week ahead of schedule." Well, uh, no, 5 days does not equal a full week. Why do you guys do this?
Anyway, looks like it could be a fun few days right after opening. Go crush that snow down for those of us who need to wait until Turkey Day. Hopefully they don't open 4. Could be some fun touring back that way, once the pow is gone inbounds.
Awesome pics all. You stoke me :)
^^^Ha. So funnez. Chair 5? Stoke Meter at 2!!! Must mean they need more snow.
Back in the day, KW would open as soon as there was snow, and the managers would be out on the hill, working, bumping even, making sure their clientele were stoked. Now, they all hang out in the (central, as in flat lands) valley and wait for their minimum wage employees to show up and do the work. So Vail.
And from the website...
Um, that is what we are doing when we track it out. If you don't ski the snow, it will blow away in the wind. How many times have we seen the east wind rape the top of the hill. Remember 2011? They should be paying people to skin and ski 10 right now.Quote:
We also ask guests to please help us preserve early season snow conditions by not hiking other areas of the mountain at this time. .
Very, very sad news...my friend was skiing with the girl who crashed @ Alpine and went into a coma, and she passed away in the hospital yesterday. She suffered a partially separated brain stem as well as broken facial bones and a fractured vertebrae in her back. I guess her brain was swelling so badly that they had to schedule sedation...
Remember, early season can be super dangerous! If you are going out, be careful, have fun, and live each moment to the fullest!
I'm really sorry to hear that, thanks for sharing such sad and personal news animalstyle.
My condolences to those affected by the tragedy.
Wow, that is so sad. Condolences to all who loved and knew her.
That is extremely sad to hear. Condolences to all friends and family. RIP.

Dammit that's horrible news. Vibes to family and friends.
fuck a duck that truly sucks. +++++
Oh man, that is terrible, terrible news Condolences to friends, family and any involved.
Be careful out there, and to back up Schralps comments earlier, be careful an don't let the powder fever get you. I made some not so smart moves the other day (see powdorks page), but also backed away from things that just did not feel right. Play safe, especially as the lifts begin to spin through this next round of snow.
Wow, unbelievable. We must have just gotten off the mtn when that happened. So crazy to think things could go that wrong - the day seemed so fun, chill and low key (and deep). Condolences to family and friends.
WOW. Sorry to hear.
Damn it, major vibes to her and all who knew her. Not a good start to this season especially after last year. Be safe out there peeps.
Sorry for the false start - 16th Friday.
Wow - just saw the thread update. Deep condolences to all her loved ones and friends.
Serious injury, but hopefully she did not feel pain when she went.
bummer to hear the end result of the incident.......very sad. thoughts and prayers to family and friends.
Horrible news, RIP. Vibes to family and friends.
So sorry to hear. :frown: Vibes to family and friends!
Horrible. Vibes to family and friends.
condolences to family and friends..... :(
VIBES,
Seems this should have its own thread.
Sounds like she got hit by lighting, Just a freak thing to happen.
Local Girls who want to climb a mountain to get the first tracks in are a special thing.
Big loss.
I Bet she had a big grin on right before the lights went out.
Nothing in any of the local papers that I can find
I feel sad. I hear the sadness from many here. We all know this could be us or someone we know just as easily as her. We are out there to get the fresh, unable to resist the feeling of sliding down cold mountains. I am sure it is true for many as well, but I know for myself that I would rather die that way than hunkering down at the computer into the evening on a Friday night to secure my nest egg and having a diabetic stroke. That said, we all should be cautious and maintain presence of mind about the dangers out there and how real it can be. Stay alert, make decisions that keep skiing in your future and the future in your skiing. Watch out for each other and give your buddies the honor of hearing your concerns, misgivings or unease. Live to Ski means Live...to ski another day.
Also, it will definitely impact access to Alpine one way or another and the community that enjoys that hill before opening day (and after) should be ready to respond. Anyone here in PR?
In the spirit of what was good about the past weekend, a few pics.

Again, play safe out there folks. It looks like we have a long season ahead of us.
Thanks for all the early season stoke guys. This time of year I'm putting as much face time in with the wife as possible so I can counter complaints about me being gone all winter :)
Impressive. Now go back to your surfing.
:the_finge
Went & did a quick lap in west bowl @ sierra this morning. Found some great turns on n facing stuff. Slight crust in the sunny areas but it broke pretty easily.
Nothing gnardical but rather fun...:)

fucking hippy!!! why do you make so many turns???
I find it funny that failwood puts 6'ers video up on the facebook page (clearly the wood doesn't have enough snow) and then brags about opening chair 5. I think the marketing dept gave the green light to book holiday vacations or the Lawyers called and told them to open so we will not be allowed to hike anymore. Either way it is all about the $, not the coverage. The mountain is holding more snow than it was in Feb of 2012. Sunday delivered the goods and Friday we will just look at em. I think the Heavenly 6 pack is a better run than 5, WTF?
Failwood gets a -10 on the stoke meter. I can't wait for the yellow jackets and closed ropes that come next.
