Anybody using this model:
BLACK CONCEPT 2 ROWERG ROWER - PM5
Looking at adding a rower to my micro home gym...
Thanks in advance!
I have that, it is awesome. It connects to my phone erg data app, and it connects to my Garmin watch for Garmin connect tracking.
HR Chest strap connects to pm5, and pm5 reports data to framing watch and phone. Setup your workouts in the erg data app, and it starts your watch and pm5 all at the same time. Pretty slick.
I bought the PM5 for my old concept2 and it works great. As noted, the updated computer connects to your chest Heart rate monitor, watch (apple in my case), and Strava if you track that way. I can't totally remember, so the technical differences are probably in connectivity more than anything else. But, if it it keeps the work out fresh and ultimately gets you pumped to do it, that's a total win anyway.
Now I have to check my damper settings and 2K time.
Here is yesterday's 2k. 7:38. Getting better but still not what i had back in August.

The lunch time pull.
4k.
So hungry. Kitchen here I come.Attachment 436385
Getting back into doing 2ks instead of just doing 500m intervals. Goal is to get back to 7min. Felt pretty good, though I was gassed at the end. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...4aae3e494e.jpg
Damn dude. Nice work! Do you have a training plan to get there? Mind sharing?
I rowed a 2k yesterday, time is down to 7:34, 5 seconds faster than the last one.

Thanks. Around 10yrs ago I pulled my fastest at 6:45, but I don't have that in me anymore. I want to get back to 7:00. I have my damper set at 7. Much below that and it feels like I'm not doing enough. I don't have much of a training plan as I mix/match workouts a lot.
My goal is to row twice a week. My workout that day was 3x 500m (under 1:50 pace, rest 1-2 minutes between), 2000m (rest 3-5 minutes), 3x 500m.
One of my favorite workouts now is to throw on a weighted vest (I use 40#) and get on the treadmill set at 15% incline at 3mph and walk. I stop every 10 minutes for a quick upper body set and then go again. I shoot for 1hr, but any time is good.

Your times are almost identical to mine !! Even at 10 years ago and to present day. keep it up !!
So just for kicks I've been playing with the damper on last 3 2K's.
7:56 with the damper on 5 and 6, but was a 8:09 with it on 7. I couldn't really go harder, but I actually wasn't hardly worked at the end. So then, I guess I shoulda gone way harder :).
A good friend of mine is a crossfit coach, going to help me go harder on the rower - keep it interesting. Current goals of 2K < 7:30, and 5K <20 - both seem pretty ambitious for me right now.
In other news, my PM5 firmware says out of date. mac software is too old to run the update, mac is too old to update the iOs software. Doesn't seem to be possible to update from my phone. You guys had to update? Any suggestions?
I've had to update the one in my basement and the one at work. To do the update, i installed the concept2 utility on my windows laptop, and bring a USB cable to plug the pm5 into the laptop, update the pm5. Pretty straightforward.
You can update with a USB drive too, but presumably you'd need to find someone with the latest C2 utility software to make the USB file.
In other news, I updated my ErgData app recently and love the new data it provides. Power vs. time plot is very nice to see if you're drifting away from your target.
Nice work with those times in there.
For me....just spinning on damper setting of 4 for 30 minutes. Best so far was averaging 1:57 / 500m. That being said I'm 6'3 and pretty heavy. For workout I think long steady state rows to get a base in. This will help you when it comes time to start hammering shorter pieces.
Do something like 30 minutes at 22-24 spm 2-3 times per week. Then twice a week warm up for 10 minutes at 22-24 spm, then get into some pieces. This is what I've just started. Go with something like 4 x 3 minute pieces as around to slightly below 2k pace. Rest for 2-3 minutes in between pieces. Other one would be warm up for 10 minutes at 22-24 spm, then hammer 3 x 5 minute pieces at 26-28 spm at slightly below 2k pace. Do this for 4-6 weeks and I have a feeling you will be breaking your time when it comes to 2k.
I read somewhere that you should finish every weight lifting session with a hard 500 pull. So today I did. It was hard. Other people at the gym were looking at me funny as i sat on the ground sucking wind afterwards.

Rawr! PR 2k. 7:21.7
I need a nap now... Oh man.Attachment 439126
Decided to pregame Christmas and put in the work today. Each round of rowing was followed by by
25 KB swings (28kg)
10 DB clean/press (50# DBs)
10 Tricep press (heavy band)
10 shoulder raise (medium band)
500m - 1:38
2000m - 7:11.5
500m - 1:43
2000m - 7:26
500m - 1:48
First 2k time is my fastest in at least 5yrs. Grateful for this thread pushing me. Goal for '23 is to get back below 7 minutes for 2k. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...f3eaa7e177.jpg
Yeah this thread is motivating.
You are on a roll!
I finally got back on a machine. There is shit going down in the Bolivia right now, so we couldn't leave the city today. So off to the country club, where wouldn't you know it. Couple of concept 2 machines. 1136 3k.
I've been eating a lot down here. Dayum.
Lost the rate a bit toward the end, but a good swing this morning to start the yearhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...8e78b56d1d.jpg

Damn. That's impressive.
Didn’t want to lurk the whole season, hopefully it can throw a stick on someone’s fire to get after it

First row for me of 2023. Did a total of 7500 meters in 31 minutes. Got to 7000 in just under 29 minutes. Basically I did a five minute warmup and then alternated fast and "slow" trying to keep the fast around 1:55 and the slow around 2:05. Started out doing 1:00 fast, 2:00 slow, then switching to :30 fast, 1:00 slow. Good workout.
Getting back into it. Did ok over break up to a few days after new years and then took a break for a couple weeks. I've lost some weight, down near 180lbs, lightest I've been since college. Back at it the last few weeks though, and today tried my hand at a 2k for time again. 7:25.1. My personal record is 7:21.
2k is fucking hard. I probably could have gone faster, but my brain caved to my body in the last 300m.

Nice! You're getting close! 1 or two more and you'll be there.
Was an interval day for me.
500m - 2000m - 2000m - 500m
Sprinkled some weights and kettlebells into the rest periods. I'm trying to lose some weight (up at 204# and trying to get back to 190#) so pushing hard on rower and run sprints.
Was able to pull 1:34 - 7:13 - 7:29 - 1:43. Was bummed on the last 500m as I was shooting for 1:40 but didn't have much in the tank. Had to restart the 2nd 2000m after not taking enough rest. Got 500m in and had to stop. Waited 5 minutes and was able to go again. I love/hate this machine so much.
Had a fun moment at the gym yesterday on the C2. Tail end of a partner workout and was sprinting for the last 45 seconds. Was pulling at a 2000 cal/hr pace and suddenly there was a crunching sound that happened mid-pull and it felt like the chain slipped off the gear if it was a bike. I was flung backwards and essentially popped a wheelie on the rower. Low back was slightly tweaked but is ok today.
What gives? Gym coach thinks it's just an old stiff chain, I think I stripped teeth off a sprocket/gear. No idea what's inside there. Are these like a bike that you should replace the chain and cassette at the same time? Mostly asking because I don't want the owner to do a half assed fix for me to break it again, or to throw out my back the next time sprints come around.
Beast! I feel the same way, love it and hate it.
I think i gotta build more strength. Gotta lift more. Did some upper body work on the weights after the row. Goal is to get back to 185lb and lean.
Dj Sapp so tough he's breaking the machine! Lol. I don't know what happened, but it would sketch me out for future pulls if i wasn't positive it was fixed correctly.
Decided to see what I could muster for a half marathon in Late March. Time to start extending the time in the grinderhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c45d70c756.jpg

3k today before lifting weights. 11:34.9. My best 3k time is 11:33.5. It didn't register that I could have beat it until too late.
Eased in to the first minute and then went as hard as I could. Surprised myself with a 7:28 2k. Pretty happy with that. Also disappointed I didn't come out stronger. Thinking I could've hit 7:10ish. These machines are ass kickers.
Hit my best 2k time in over 10 years. My goal for the year is to get sub 7:00 by end of June and sub 6:55 by end of the year. New job has kept me off the rower more than I wanted, but trying to ramp back up. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...e2e82ad173.jpg
Has anyone tried concept's dynamic rower? I'm interested in it due to it being a little more compact and also potentially better on the lower back. Not having tried it, I'm curious how it feels overall.
Would like to get a rower for the house. Is Concept2 the best way to go? Seems like it. Also, it seems like they don't go on sale, and used they hold value. Debating just buying directly at full price. Long-term investment in our health and wellness. I can justify it, but I'm wondering if anyone has other recs? Yes, I've already been perusing local CL/FB ads.
