Touching the void.
True story that is inspirational and aw-inspiring, it was leave you saying "holy-shit balls I think I just fucked myself."
Watched the Documentary "Salinger" about J.D. Salinger (obviously).
It was well done and offered a lot of insight to a man I only knew as the writer of Catcher in the Rye and a recluse.
Room 237.
Documentary about Stanley Kubrick's version of The Shining.
If you like the film you should enjoy this feast.
Totally off the wall crazy documentary with multiple theories, subliminal and literal subtexts with conspiracies, delusional errors, and playing the movie backwards and forwards at the same time trying to figure it all out.
Taken with a grain of salt, overall a cool cheesy documentary.
SOUND OF NOISE
crazy Swedish film about a sonically challenged police officer on the trail of a group of audio "terrorists". the first movement, "Doctor Doctor Give Me Gas In My Ass" is amazing.

Somm. Reminds me of the baking one I posted pages ago.
Go for it.
Speaking of crazy Scandie movies, my wife and I watched "Dead Snow" a couple weeks ago on Netflix. Pretty funny Norwegian slasher movie.
Sons of Anarchy.
I was a bit disappointed. Too much Enviro-talk, not enough surfing and action.
I enjoyed the 'The ghost and the darkness' a true story about man-eating lions in colonial Africa...

also, 'The Bounty' (1984) Starring Antony Hopkins, Mel Gibson, Danial Day-lewis and Liam Neeson I doubt we'll ever see the same level of acting talent on a same screen again.

I'm Watching 'Ken Burns presents: the West' now, it's fucking awesome, if you love the story of the west
BEYOND THE BLACK RAINBOW
visually and aurally mesmerizing, this is a strange, rather abstract psuedo sci-fi flick that is probably best viewed in an altered state of mind. although i'd say if you are prone to seizures you might want to skip it as it's teeming with muy trippy visuals, lots of light, and undulating sound. it definitely borrows a bit from late '60s and early '70s sci-fi films, especially in terms of its look and style (think production and art design), but it's on its own trip.
GIRL WALKS INTO A BAR
Tarantinoesque romp through several bars in Los Angeles featuring Carla Gugino, Rosario Dawson, and that Sloan chick from Entourage (she plays a stripper, no less). Great dialogue, some wonderfully absurdist moments, and a loose, from the cuff noir vibe.
The trailer makes it out to be a bit more campy than it is, but the cast is stellar and the pacing is nice.
Looks like season 8 of It’s always sunny in Philadelphia just became available. Haven’t seen any episodes yet but I have high hopes...
Watched Bones Brigade last week. Awesome documentary..Rodney Mullen was incredible.
Anyone else get pulled into Chuck?
Fukkin' hilarious spy/nerd series.
Gets going good after the first season.
I really liked Chuck. The end sucked though.
Been watching "Spaced," Brit sitcom from the c. 2000 made by the peeps who did "Shaun of the Dead," et al. Good way to waste time half an hour at a time.
Legend of Aahhhs is on Hulu and Amazon prime free rental.
You've already watched all 6 or whatever seasons !!!
Burn is an amazing and sad documentary about Detroit and its firefighters and its fire problem.
Blackfish is on Netflix.
Great movie. ^^
I just watched that. Most depressing thing I've seen in a while.
Some really creative culinary approaches captured here:

if you appreciate the Italian giallo and horror genres, specifically those by Dario Argento, then you may very well enjoy Berberian Sound Studio.

It's an atmospheric psychological thriller wrapped in beautifully saturated cinematography and an engaging score by the great British outfit Broadcast. Off-kilter, creepy, and teeming with some great performances.
Two recents that were very good -
The Fall - kind of a mix between dexter and the wire. Only one season of 5 episodes but greatly crafted. Looking forward to a second season. Scully from x files is one of leads.
Lilyhammer - Silvio from Sopranos playing comic version of his mobself. Like Sopranos meets Parks and Rec. Pretty slow through first half of first season, but excellent after that. Even a long awaited Sopranos castmate shows up for season 2.
Both good examples of Europe making some real good TV shows.
I've just finished watching The Art of Flight movie and making of series again on Netflix.
Probably the third time this year
Ken Burns documentary The West.
Bunch of others of his too.
On the Ice was a great tense crimish drama.
bunch of pretty good flicks about to expire: http://mashable.com/2013/12/28/netfl...m-fb-main-link
Don't Trust The Bitch In Apartment 23 - hilarious!
If you remotely enjoy cooking- Mind Of A Chef. A dialed in series David Chang is an up and coming stud in the culinary world.
The Intouchables is fantastic
(Did not read through entire thread)
ONLY GOD FORGIVES
This is the "follow-up" to Drive, in that it's the second film director Nicholas Winding Refn has made with Ryan Gosling. It also has a similar feel to their previous collaboration: sparse dialogue, great sound design, and great cinematography.
If you're a fan of the films of Alejandro Jodorowsky (whom the film is dedicated to) or Gaspar Noe (who is thanked in the end credits), then it will probably be to your liking. The film also shares a lot in common with the works of Kubrick, Scott, Lynch, Argento, Jordan, Cronenberg, Greenaway, DiPalma, Russell, Parker, Besson, Peckinpah, Melville, Verhoeven, and Kitamura, to name many.
It's definitely arty, but also hyper-violent, and, again, the sound and visuals are amazing.
Watching the Discovery Channel series "When We Left Earth". I'm too young to have seen the Moon Landing when it happened, or most of the manned space program. All the old footage and audio from the early space flights is really amazing. I actually got a little teary eyed. If you really like stuff like The Right Stuff (book or movie) it's kinda along those lines although a bit briefer. And it makes you wanna shout AMERICAAAA FUCK YEAH.
