Well, there marketing was also over the top ridiculous.
Andy playing Cowboy, selling $300 branded pens, an over the top showroom, and a horse listed as one of their key employees.
Most brands try to spin they have some special technology nobody else does, but Peak's marketing bullshit was on another level.
Putting a hole in a titanal sheet and acting like that was some revolutionary technology is super lame. Not even in the same league of stupidity of the typical BS tech that typical ski manufacturers flog.
I gotta think Andy and Bode are finished in the ski world after this public display of scammery.
Can you believe Andy was recently appointed to the Colorado State University Board of Directors? Like WTF!
Like, did they even A/B test skis with and without the keyhole? My very strong suspicion is no, it was just there for marketing.
I do not think you could say the same about Titanal frame or Amphibio. I am sure those were design driven and then marketed.
Amphibio. Is that what people use all season and then use to win the pond skim?
The only time I want to see Andy or Bode again is if it's celebrity boxing. Otherwise GTFO!
Come on now. I know the hate is strong but keyhole is not any more scammy than Lange’s stated range of motion on their XT boots or Armada’s articulated Titanal Banding or Kastles Hollowtech, etc etc. or even stated weights for touring skis. Everybody stretches the truth and nobody publishes rigorous research papers indicating measured performance of their “technology”.
Anyway… I get the hate. But I also really like my “elans” with metal instead of carbon. :-)

Keyhole technology is the equivalent of a company going out there and saying this ski is faster, because it is red.
You do not have to take it seriously. It is not equivalent to a company investing in design and engineering and then handing it over to marketing where they overhype it.
I genuinely dig bode as a skier and his kinda crazy path to skiing greatness… but his fuck-it attitude didnt and doesn’t translate well to business. He’s not a natural salesman. More rebel without a cause, which comes across as a fuck-you attitude. But he was fun to follow back in the day!
Lance Armstrong was great back in the day as well. It doesn't make him any less of a douche for being a cheat and fucking over people. A rat is a rat.
I mentioned it earlier in this thread--did anyone listen to the Blister gear 30 podcast a couple years back when JE interviewed Bode shortly after Peak skis launched? JE pressed on a few things and you could just tell Bode was full of shit on that keyhole "technology". JE is a good journalist and great at getting people to tell you who they really are without calling them out explicitly, which is why I still listen when they have an interesting guest.
But yeah the ski industry is second to none on BS "technologies" and I'm not sure who's making buying decisions based on those, but that crowd has clearly been Bode's target demographic.
Elan's Amphibio is one hype tech I believe in. My old Ripsticks were more fun to turn on edge than any skis I've ever had.
Definitely made sense to me, but I hit too many rocks to ski asymmetric skis
Wall St journal, for immediate release:
**Title: The Rise of TroughSkis: A New Era of Adventure**
In the heart of a snowy mountain range, a revolutionary vision was born—Trough Skis, a new ski company founded by legendary ski racer Bode Miller. Embracing the essence of adventure, Trough Skis sought to redefine the skiing experience with its innovative design: the Dimpled Skis.
Unlike anything seen before, the Dimpled Skis featured a distinctive surface, dotted with small dimples that enhanced grip and maneuverability on both powder and icy terrains. This unique design promised a smoother ride and exceptional control, appealing to skiers of all levels. Bode, who had spent a lifetime navigating the slopes, understood the importance of precision and thrill in every descent.
As Trough Skis entered the market, it transcended the limitations of traditional ski gear. The company’s commitment to quality, sustainability, and adventure resonated with outdoor enthusiasts everywhere. With each pair manufactured, Bode envisioned skiers carving through the mountains with newfound confidence and joy, forging deeper connections with nature and their own limits.
In its inaugural season, Trough Skis not only captured the hearts of avid skiers but also garnered accolades for its innovative approach. Each ski was engineered with care, incorporating advanced technology and eco-friendly materials, further aligning with the growing demand for sustainable practices in sports.
As the mountains echoed with laughter and excitement, Bode Miller’s dream materialized. Trough Skis emerged as a beacon of adventure, inviting adventurers to embrace the slopes like never before. With every turn and every leap, the legacy of Trough Skis forged a pathway to unforgettable experiences and boundless possibilities.
In a world rich with history, Trough Skis was not merely another company—it was the dawn of a new era in skiing, promising adventure and camaraderie in the great outdoors, truly the real chase for the ultimate ski experience.
Hard to believe, but looking forward to seeing what these dimple skis are all about https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...188a9bb86c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...cf47f2ee52.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...b2721e71dc.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...e0f3ae5c6d.jpg

Tech talk forum in the summer should be for arguing about important topics like adjustable length ski poles.
Ski company grudges and crappy AI generated images belong somewhere else maybe? Like, I don't know, go outside and play instead?
Thank you for your attention in this matter.
This is the real deal. Gsa is already training on them. Dimple tech. The zenith of the ski experience.
Trough Skis. Developing beyond the zenith.
Hey Coldfeet, how about you GTFO and go to another thread. Like I don't know, go outside and play with yourself? I don't know.
Thank you for your attention in this matter.
Trough skis seem to have serious binding issues.
But they’re trugh!

Pretty in depth Colorado Sun article, including pretty strong comments by Davenport, Parker and Ellsworth (Blister). Peak definitely non-pay screwed a bunch of people and companies, not surprising I guess. Dav says he wasn’t paid and he hasn’t been able to get a call returned from Bode or Wirth in months. Also Bode is quoted saying he was just looking to give back to the ski world via Peak… uh, yeah.

Those shitbags are really finished now!
Hilarious that it if you read between the lines it does seem to imply what Byates reported earlier that Bode and Andy are no longer so buddy buddy. "Wirth referred all inquiries to Miller." When has that huckster Wirth ever been one to have no words?
And it would seem Bode's reputation is rightfully sunk. i thought he was going to blame it all on Wirth acting like he was just the athlete while Wirth did all the business matters. The dumbass just doesn't know when to stop.
What's also interesting is the article says they sold no skis in the last year! So if true those new red Peak 88s they listed on the website and advertised never even sold. The ski manufacturer must have made them and not sent them when they didn't get paid. I was wondering how the hell they paid for that shipment of skis. Turns out they never paid for them or received them if I got it right.
Hahaha. Fuck you Andy and Bode. Fuck you. This is your last scam.
Clowns

I'd wanted to run into Dav and see what his take was on this. But those quotes in the Sun article lay it out in full view. He's usually pretty diplomatic in the industry, but this clearly was beyond egregiouis. Kind of nice to see him bring the chainsaw out to that relationship.
