It will be open.
In a timely fashion prolly with no precip tomorrow, but a.m. wind.
That path what hit the road is Valeries Climax slide path. No tunnel planned under that one.
Funny how it got its name: 1st year Snowbird was open, employee housing was in trailers on the north side of the center, where the vendors are during Oktoberfest. Really big storms used to happen. Really. Anyway with interlodge in place; everyone under hard shelter, the Willows Gun shot above the village. Same path that ran today hit the Snowbird Center and buried the trailers. Upon checking out the upper circle it was discovered that Valerie had taken someone in an amorous fashion in a trailer and was buried for her efforts; Valeries Climax.

It is open. Was looking forward to a night at Albion. Tomorrow will be quite the day.

Great story, love it! Question for ya, was Valaries the same path that ran onto Chickadee a couple years ago in April during the huge interlodge week?

No, that was the Hilton West. Story time. To kill some time.
Lived in the Hilton, the employee housing across from the top of Chickadee 20 yrs with family and dogs.
Got a call on the land line on a day off; Hilton West just ran, can you check it out. Grabbed the dog and gear and was there in 2? minutes. The road was open and the shack at entry 4 was used by the race team who were there at the time. Talked with some coaches and searched with the dog.
By the time another dog team arrived, we had searched the debris a coupla times. Problem is that when a dog is on site too quick, and one clears the site too quickly, one hasn't allowed for scent rise time, which is dependent on depth, density, and snow type.
Jesse, the dog I had with me had a bad habit of indicating needlessly if one stopped moving for very long. We encourage digging indications. Wasted some probers on occasion. Other than that, really dependable.
I stopped to brief the other handler, and Jesse starts digging. I roll my eyes at the other handler, probe the indication, and strike the roof of a car.
Good girl...
Edit to add: Brain fart. There is no Hilton West slide path. The slide that struck Chickadee two years ago, and the story above were Valeries East slide path. The slide that struck the center involved Valeries and Valeries East combined. It is really one big slope.

Dave Fields at the Town of Alta Council meeting on July 9th said there will be enhanced enforcement of people parking at Snowbird and then either taking the bus or having friends pick them up for transport to Alta.&nbsp;</p>

Seems like that would be hard to pull off. Are they going to have people running surveillance or something? It wasn’t abnormal for me to park at Snowbird but to ski the first half of the day at Alta and then finish at the bird.

What’s funny is that Alta started parking reservations because during the pandemic when Snowbird had reservations, people were parking at Alta and heading down to the bird. I personally hate reservations. I go skiing almost every day of the winter. Having to make reservations sucks. I never once not got a spot at the bird and I’ve never had to park on the highway

Agreed.
What I love about the Snowbird parking system is that there is no regulation.
Means that single motorists fill up the available parking before lifts are able to have lift lines.
Best deal anywhere that I know of...

They have signs (at least at the entrance to the superior lot) that say it’s parking for snowbird patrons only. Most of their lots sit on their private property so they can restrict access to whoever they like, that’s the law…. I suspect they won’t be able to do anything to those parking on hwy 210, not sure about the bypass road. That parking area could be part of their FS lease or they could own those “lots” as well. But Im not sure how they’ll enforce it…. We shall see, I guess

I too will sometimes park at snowbird to access Alta but I usually take the lifts through mineral to get there.

I agree with tfw and alias, parking reservations SUCK, as do the added fees associated with said reservations.

Alta charges money to park on their forest service lease parking in the town of Alta, and they own zero percent of wildcat and Albion parking lots. It’s a weird situation in LCC parking in the town of Alta is owned by the government, but most of the south facing ski terrain in LCC above Superior is privately owned, superior by snowbird and almost the entire rest of the ridge line by Alta. Alta taking away parking from backcountry skiers is hands down the worst thing they’ve done in my time Utah. They used the leverage of letting the public access their undeveloped property and their special use permit for control of publicly owned parking land. Snowbird at least owns its parking. All of the parking in the town of Alta and Alta ski area is owned by the public, who the has to pay to use it. Snowbird owns their parking, except for bypass road above powderbirds and parking along hwy210, both of which are subject to udot and Alta town Marshall to be used. Can’t imagine the tribune article last year where Alta management publicly called out Snowbird has helped their case.

Beautiful weekend in the Wasatch. Thanks to Jimmy for showing me a sweet new trail and the first time I reached the ridge on the north side of LCC.
I would post some great pictures if doing so on this forum wasn&#39;t so hard!

To follow up on our knee discussion last week.I recently bruised my right foot near and under my big toe.As I recover and move while my right foot is unable to fully flex and support weight, my left side is drastically affected. The left foot no longer wants to act normal because it is modifying itself to balance with the new orientation in my body. Because of this, I can very clearly feel that it is my left knee which is most vulnerable because it is also being hugely affected by my new gait.
In case anyone is curious with how I am healing and actually wants to be open to all possibilities to improve recovery times:

Parking reservation fees definitely suck for non-passholders (except Solitude), but I'm not going to shed a tear over Ikon problems ;)

Parking reservations are objectively terrible, but they do improve traffic by reducing the total and peak vehicle volume. And if Fields genuinely wants to stop Alta skiers from freeloading it would definitely work and be easier than whatever enforcement they attempt.

I enjoyed the parking reservation system when I only skied Alta and certainly felt like it benefitted those who only skied Alta, which makes a lot of sense to me.

The idea of parking reservations sucks, but man did they improve the weekend experience in BCC, so I can&#39;t say they suck in practice. Parking things that do suck:

• charging for parking
• Solitude not announcing any details for season parking passes yet. Am I going to have to pay $35 / weekend day to park? (fitting 4 people into my car is not realistic)
• Amber&#39;s explanation and Q&A around the parking lot proposal at Solitude (https://youtu.be/5ZY9i8WgpUw?si=8qRXtexPQlNDQvYA&t=2640) - starts at 44 mins if the time specific link doesn&#39;t work

I am not advocating for more people in the canyon but why doesn't Solitude just build a parking garage if that's the goal? Half the reason I rarely go to Solitude, even in the afternoon, is because their current parking lot is badly designed and doesn't encourage intuitive/natural flow of traffic for entry/exiters.

Well that seems to be why they are building a parking lot. They claim it is just to replace spots that will be lost from UDOT discontinuing roadside parking, but that smells like bs. Agreed that getting out of the current lot on a busy powder day is a nightmare if you get parked deep in the lot. A new parking lot merging above the current parking lot exit will make Brighton traffic even worse, probably a good time to invest in an hourly airbnb up there so you can rent it out for traffic naps.

Makes me wonder how hard it would be to build a partial or entirely underground garage. The amount of cars you can get in there versus snow maintenance screams for this. They can also organize garages in a way that traffic naturally flows in the direction it desires to move.
