Best day of the year by far today with an 18" 2 day storm total. Some safer zones got skied yesterday, but the crew flew and blew, releasing a slide down Tiger Main that almost made it to the road.
That resulted in Tiger 0-5 being opened, and lawdee they skied great, first day of white room face blotting blasters. The first part of the storm came in moist and laid down a thick blanket over the crusts, then as the snow progressed, it laid feather light comforters over the hill. Ramped and raged 5 runs with a good group. RMYF, Tiger2, Dolores, Tiger 1, Tiger 0, the last being the best rack of snowhose to the face. Skied a little further right into the imaginary Tiger i.
Yeah, it's an odd place and easy to enumerate grievances, but it's quiet, low key, primo pow schralping in fall away terrain.
Once again, props to the crew, Fabio, Stan, Skyler, Calvin et al.
Another 5-9" tonight should smooth out todays trenches.
Noice!! FKNA!
Still skiing fantastic yesterday, lots of waist deep pillows and unskied tongues of pow.
I'm thrashed.
This place chews me up like no other ski area. But it's quiet and relaxed. Weird.
Not exactly cruising blue groomers.
Chews you up more than Alpental? Dang. Congrats and thanks for the pics.

An idea borne of a slice of madness and bowlfuls of determination, I am beyond grateful to have basked a moment or two in the light.
All the best for your futures and may the world recognize your work.
You certainly nailed it buster, for however long you've been there. Killing it.
Just two weeks this time, strain of inlaw upkeep on my wife truncates this trip, I need to get back.
I'm still the fucking luckiest dirtbag ever.
Headed down in my truck camper for a few days around the unguided opening. Probably just a few days (Wed-Friday?) then heading to UT for some dirt biking.
Looking like I'll be solo this year as the rest of my group has bailed. So if anyone needs a partner, I can keep up with most. Also, if anyone has a driveway or campsite suggestions around town hit me up (PM). I plan on being pretty low impact/self sufficient.
^out past the Venture factory is a good spot to car camp
No pass for me this year but hit me up if you need camping recs up this way on your way in or out. Peach valley is currently totally dry too.
Nice. Headed to matts recovery offfroad games in hurricane ut. Never done it but a friend convinced me to go and a few days at Silverton is really all i need unless it really dumps.
Peach valley has been on my list for a while. A friends wife broke her back and was heli-evac-ed from there so my crew doesn't go there much unfortunately.

Bump for unguided season and the Grassy Bowl single drops. Storm lining up nicely, should be a good weekend!
Sorry asmileyface. Never made it into your shop. Be back in a few weeks and i will stop in.
Had a great trip now headed to UT. Snow didnt really hit till yesterday but every day had enough snow to be enjoyable. Crowds yesterday were a little excessive. Lift didnt open till 10 due to power outage. Longest lines i have ever seen there.
Mechanical issues with the busses meant long waits for them as well.
They were being militant about people not skiing the road this year, which was extra annoying due to the bus situation. I thought the bus driver’s head was gonna explode. Poor guy is probably a nice guy outside of work but they really put him in a shitty position and he kinda has to be a asshole all day.
I always have fun despite the really frustrating inequities of the place. I hope the new owners can figure out a better way to do things. Every year I consider just not doing it anymore but at the end of the day the mountain and the snow draws me back.
And if you need some hot water soaking while there, the Shangri La hot tubs are pretty great. Especially when living out of a camper. Totally worth the $20.
I heard that it was the most people on an unguided day ever, and I can believe it from how busy I have been for the last 3 days.
From what I gathered talking to folks... yesterday was one of the toughest days at the mountain ever for the staff. Power going out was just the shit icing on top of a difficult situation. They try their best, but when you are outnumbered 30 to 1 customers to guides/staff (there are only ~10 non-guide staff total) and everyone has to go through multiple bottle necks at all stages to get on the lift the situation is setup for failure. All of town is stretched thin with the number of people who descended on Silverton this weekend.
I truly hope the new ownership finds a way to stagger the craziness of unguided better. These first few weekends since the introduction of the cheap single drop have been nuts. In three weeks there will be less than a hundred people skiing daily. An idea I heard from my GFs dad last night is to make the heli drops more expensive the closer you are to opening weekend. If you want to come in mid-March for your single drop it is going to be $150 to ski Grassy. If you come April 10th it's $59. Or just get rid of the cheap heli skiing all together... but that ship has likely sailed, this is what Silverton is known for sadly.
I'll have a beer for you next time you swing around! See ya then.
