My all-time favorite boat I've ever seen was a DCB M-35s on Lake Chelan, WA. Holy fucking shit, it was bright orange, ran twin 1350's, had a top speed of 176 mph and sounded like nothing you've ever heard before. We could hear the guy doing hot laps a couple miles down the lake from us throughout the summer, it sounded like he was running a turbine. Back in the 2013 poker run he blew by the lunch crowd in Lucern at a reportedly 170 mph and almost didn't make the turn a 1/2 mile away to miss the bank. It has since sold, back to Havasu from where it came. Here are a couple shots I took of it and a video of the return pass at Lucern (not my vid, incorrectly identifies it as a M-38)

It's amazing how common the 4 350s are becoming. At that point, just run trips seven marine 627s. Clearly money isn't a limiting factor.

If you want to go fast in style , grab this 90' Jarret Bay. Since 2017 delivery, they have added a foil for a few more mphs and will be ripping the diesels out as soon as someone produces larger engines twin (3,300?). It was designed for hypothtitcal big boys cause twin 2,600hp isn't enough. Dream is 60knots.

It looks like he enters the trap at about 14 seconds. At 175mph it would take seconds 13 seconds to cover a kilo.
He passes the camera at about 100mph

I ran one of the scanners at Devils Lake Kilos for over 15 years. I scanned a Grand National Hydro in 1991 doing 155mph.

I've met and talked to the owner of that boat personally as well as had a buddy ride along and video at 160. If you're getting a boat in the $500-$700K range you're probably hoping the speedometer isn't off by 50-70 mph. That APBA record is 'official' but I also think that there are boats out there that can exceed that number but haven't done so on a professional course.

Going over 150, shit happens quick, and people die with an open cockpit

Hitting a top speed is easy, that's why an official speed record it done in a flying kilo or mile. The speed must be maintained over the entire course. That's where the difficulty is.

I completely agree. Plus on Lake Chelan you have huge amounts of driftwood, stuff in the 20'-40' range. At that speed you'd barely have a chance to react. They scope the run via helicopters before starting the racers meeting but it blows my mind that they can do a poker run there: anywhere from 40-60 boats straight hauling ass on an open body of water that varies from 2 miles to less than a 1/4 wide.
