Hops: Barbe Rouge, Hull Melon and Amarillo. Dry hopped with Barbe Rouge and Citra. Fermented and keg conditioned with brettanomyces B/C.

I've been a fan of Eric's beers for years - especially his sours, which he's put a lot of effort into perfecting. Plus, Standard Brewing has been quietly killing it in a sea of independent breweries.
This one is more Brett than IPA, but doesn't pucker your face off. Then the hops come on for the finish. 11/10
I've talked about this with some friends, they don't always do the flashiest beers, and the tap list trends in different directions a decent amount. But they do a great job describing their beers and just putting out solid stuff. I appreciate their mild/lager stuff as a nice break when I go in, and getting cans has been nice.Quote:

Yeah, that's my take too. There are a lot of brewers in the pnw that are basically engaged in a hop war. That's not to say I don't love an over-hopped punch in the face, but I like other styles as well. Especially beers from the Lambic/Gose/Berliner Weisse and Farmhouse/Saison families, which Standard seems to do well (limited selection up here in subdued excitementland)Quote:

Just opened one of these, and I think it was in the cellar for at least five years longer than optimal. It's supposed to be a hoppy golden ale, but those hop notes are pretty flat now.

Anchor's Christmas beer is out now. Just picked up a six at the store today, but haven't cracked one yet.
I got my hands on a couple bottles of the 08 a few yrs ago. Definitely agree the aging did not make it better. The 09 was my favorite of all the Vertical Epics. I had a bunch of bottles I found one year and held on to them too long as well. They fared better that the 08 but definitely weren't as good as fresh aged 12-18mos. I used to buy a lot of bottles and age them. A lot aged too much as I had more than I could drink in time. I've pretty much concluded aging beyond a year doesn't do most beers any good. The only exceptions have been the 2010 or 12 Vertical Epic, and my last batch of home brew (bourbon aged porter). I didn't like those VE's at first but a couple years to mellow out helped them. The home brew seemed to get better and better. Another friend brewed the same recipe same day but used rum instead. It was almost undrinkable at first but is great now it's had a few years to age.

A clean and refreshing pilsner that is mildly malty upfront and then has a nice, mellow and even bitterness on the backend. Perfect with pizza.
