I need a new mattress

I understand what the rep was getting at, but damn if that is a dumb thing to say.

And besides, even considering that returns cost a shitton, that's obviously built in to the price of the bed. I mean, they have some estimation of how many will get returned, and price accordingly. Sure, if more than expected get returned they may lose money and go out of business, but if less than expected get returned they make more money. If returns were not built into the price, then even the most awesome bed would have a hard time making money, because some people are still going to return it.

Yeah, I totally understand the economics of the situation but jesus, so stupid. I wrote them off (I also read a couple reviews that specifically mentioned their shitty cs).

Pangeabed Classic is on order, I'll report back after a couple weeks. FWIW, the Loom and Leaf was super tempting but for 40% less I'm giving Pangea a shot. From what I've read BigSteve is right, the L&L is a pretty damn amazing mattress. But my roof has a leak and my snowblower won't start. Priorities.

Well, we have 5 days on the Pangeabed Classic - and are both loving it. We're coming from a 5 year old Serta something or other that was about $1500 for mattress and box spring. The pangea is really supportive and kind of splits the difference between full memory foam and coil. It lets you sink some but not a ton. The latex top is quick to react (but not too bouncy because of the memory foam underneath) and you don't feel stuck. The quality of materials appears to be quite high, I'm impressed by the "fit and finish." They make their mattresses to order so it wasn't just sitting in a warehouse for months beforehand - additionally, cutting the plastic there was zero off-gassing and it was good to go about 30 minutes afterwards.

For the money I really don't think you can do better. Based on my research I still would like to check out a Loom & Leaf (Big Steve's choice) and a Nectar (it seems like it might be a more classic memory-foam feel, which I think I like). All things considered though, the pangeabed is great - I look forward to bed every night and it's a great sleep after how bad my body is getting hammered with all this ridiculous skiing we've been having.

A few other things: sometimes it seems they promo bundle the pangea pillows with the mattress. The pillows are really high quality but are much thicker than I like and we ended up not using them (I prefer feather or memory foam as well - pure latex is too bouncy). Also, if you're thinking of putting any bed on a platform it should have slats. I'm building a platform and there are a lot of plans out there that put it on a solid surface. That's no bueno. If a mattress is on a solid surface it greatly increases the chance of mold forming (a mattress pulls quite a bit of moisture from you as you sleep). Put that shit on slats so it can breath. That is true for any mattress.

Guess I should update y'all. The Tuft and Needle is a nice bed. It is firm, yet you sink in quite nice. It may be a tad bit bouncy for some because of the top 3 inches of their proprietary foam, but that's what makes it semi-firm. It's very well made and overall I'm happy with it. I'd say if you like the conforming feel of memory foam, but find pure MF beds too soft, this would be a good choice. I'm 220lbs and my SO is 120lbs and we both find it very comfortable.

Nada. I started adult-ing hard and bought a house. We moved the Serta to the guest bedroom. However, it's worth noting that we're sleeping noticeably better on the Pangeabed - and the Serta is potentially towards the end of its life if the normal 7 - 10 year guideline is to be believed. The Pangea is definitely more supportive in a good way; but that may just be the nature of the different foam layers vs. innerspring. I kind of think this industry might be becoming like bikes at this point, is there really a truly terrible design out there anymore?

i've basically given up. my body hurts so bad after 2-3 hours laying down on pretty much every mattress i've tried in ages i just get up. modern waterbed, memory foam, the big name mattresses, foam core futons, air mattresses, etc., etc., etc. eventually i get so tired during the day if i can grab a nap it's usually better than my night sleep regardless. my dad has one of the fitbits that tracks sleep so i might borrow it for a while and see the dirty data

^^^ Maybe you need a sensory deprivation tank? Just a pool full of salt water; no pressure points at all.

So what I want to know is why, in the 21st century, nobody has built a sofa that holds or disguises a normal, off the shelf, full thickness, comfortable single bed mattress, and converts easily between a bed and a sofa? I am not talking about a futon or any of a bunch of various 'day beds'. Those things are always uncomfortable and do both jobs poorly. I have a picture in my mind of what I want. However I am not anywhere near a competent furniture maker myself or even a carpenter. There are a few points in my proposed design that definitely need a pro to work out. I also don't have the dough to commission a piece.
