Was surprised to wake up to 3" on the car at Mayflower Gulch. Gold Hill skied real nice and flurries continued throughout the day. Excited for tomorrow.
skiing real nice out there
I never knew this thread existed...and is so active...in the "Snow Conditions and Weather" forum.
Beaver Creek inbounds today was nice powder on a firm layer, with sometimes not-so-great viz up high. (At least the firm layer was reliably smooth under there, on the steeper sections where I felt it most).
Anyway, I am in Summit County for 10 days with a ton of skis to share for free. Feel free to request to borrow my skis during JAN 12-21 at my Ski Lending Library thread.

This what the skin track on Buffalo looked like this afternoon.

I get that winter trails aren’t just for skiers, but if you’re going to posthole up the side of the mountain for an hour anyway why do you have to ruin the skin track while doing it.
Views and turns were still worth it though...

Jesus H Christ, I hate people who completely posthole fuck the skin track that could have given dozens (or hundreds for buffalo on a weekend) a nice hike. All for a little less effort for just one selfish mother fucker.
Indian Peaks were skiing great today; we tracked the heck outta this place over the course of 7 hours.

Thanks for the Abasin ski school recs. My 4 year old had a good day. Wasn't stuck in Molly Hogan bowl. Instructor reportedly led the group off a "jump." I got some pretty good turns in too.

I'm a pretty big ski track nazi but...I've realized a few things over the years.
If it is a multi use trail outside of avalanche terrain, it is a lost cause.
If you didn't put in the skin track, your right to bitch is limited.
At Berthoud, I pretty much give the boot packers the first skin track for free i.e. You can douche out this track but you better not touch the second one I put it.
Where possible, hide your tracks in the trees, make a couple unnecessary switch backs etc. The go to move it to set your skin track through tree wells, post holers love that.

SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. — A man is dead after some kind of incident on Quandary Peak Sunday morning, according to the Summit County Sheriff's Office.
The Summit County Rescue Group was first notified of an injured skier on the peak around 11:20 a.m. at around 13,400-foot elevation, the Sheriff's Office said. A Flight-For-Life helicopter had to be used to reach the patient.
The man, who had a companion with him, was pronounced dead on scene, law enforcement said. The man's companion was flown to the command post at Blue Lakes Road and Highway 9 in Summit County.
The Summit County Coroner's Office has control of the investigation now and will release more information when they can.
