Are you sure Old Goat? Last I heard Greg was taking a 10 week vacation on a wooden sail boat. If that is true it would be a huge loss for our area.

It's what the new owners told me. His tuning machine is still in the back of the shop while he decides whether he wants it or not, so hopefully he'll open another shop somewhere--but I don't imagine it would be anywhere close to the old one. I don't know him personally, just what the new owners told me.
Sorry to hear that. Check Greg out if he reopens locally. Great guy and top notch bike & ski tuner!
Coming up for a hockey tournament aug 21-24. Would like to camp and play kill the cooler but looks like its a bad time of year for that. Is there camping around Tahoe like there is in Mammoth? I know we are going to be loud and obnoxious so the further away from people the better. I know people don't want to give up their cool guy spots so shoot me a pm if you have any ideas. I will gladly trade good, free, camp spots in the Mammoth area for a little info about Tahoe.
Is this hockey tournament at the South Tahoe Rec Center or up in Squaw?

No vid. Just pics.
I don't know if squaws is year round.
There is not a lot of free improved camping here. The only one I know of with bathrooms is on Luther pass (hwy 89) downhill of the Big Meadow trailhead (entering through the Big Meadow parking. There is free primitive camping on FS 157 just on the south side of Luther pass but the road is fairly rough right at the start. You will also find some up near Strawberry off wrights lake road towards phantom spires. Others may chime in but one of the best ways to find free camping would be through climbing websites.
No fires will be allowed at any free campsite or any campground without a camp host.
me 'n Vets milked the last of the 4th of July Bowl's snowpack up in Blackwood Canyon yesterday. Mom Nature's warm weather severely melted the patches I'd skied a mere week ago, that's for sure. Still, turns were had. Pictures forthcoming as we only had Vets phone. While we were skiing somebody further down the canyon was preparing for the zombie apocalypse, firing off mondo rounds with a semi-automatic for a good hour. We were met by the sheriff when we exited the trail as he was on the hunt to find the culprits. Other'n that, just another day of Tahoe patch skiing.

A fun ski day.
Here is one photo of dookey67 skiing over to the light side:

Solid Gilligan's Island patch skiing tour apres work yesterday with Vets up on Forestdale Divide. We schussed 6 patches, all of which contained pretty damn bueno snow (very minimal suncups and lottsa soft-serve). Found a pond that Powdork woulda skimmed the f@#k out of, too (we dubbed it Luniz Lake as we got 5 turns on the patch above it). Pretty sure the area will get severely burnt in the next week, so this might have been the last hurrah. I, naturally, forgot my camera (forgot my ski socks, too, but learned that gold toe dress socks work rather well), so pix will be forthcoming once Vets sorts 'em out.
^ Quality snow on a variety of patches.

great references to Luniz by Dooks in previous post, hah.
Oakland represent!
Also, you guys should really get mountain bikes or something. Don't you remember that patches have a 10-turn rule? 5 isn't enough.
I regret these remarks. You should ski whenever and wherever you can! Stupid drought season.
Every time I see a patch of snow while mountain biking, the running joke is do you see Vets on it :rolleyes2
Vets I salute your passion :the_finge
I like bikes also, so I'll leave those 5 turn patch's to you guys
Here I am starting to descend 4500 feet last Sunday

I would take 5 ski turns over a mountain bike ride right now.
Dying here in Los Angeles with the heat...lack of water.
Nice shot TBC. Where is it from? SW of Freel?
Jobs Sister, that's Star Lake down there
No rules. Just rights (and lefts.) BTW - We did get 10, 12, 13, 14 turns or so on other patches.

It's my winter fat bike setup with 29er 45mm wide rims and 29+ 3" wide tires for summer riding, it slays the deep decomposed granite and at 23 pounds the lightest bike of the 4 on this mission.
Had to snap this photo while loading up to head out out on this mission, one thing is not like the others

That's off the charts TBC! I was wondering if you were going to use it for summer chunk. More fun than the Ibis or just different?
TahoeBC, Thanks. Let me know where those hidden patches are and you might see me on them.
I'm actually thinking about mountain biking at least one day this week. Planning on a mid-week recon ride at Kirkwood to scout the October Patch and any other hidden patches. Also, beautiful photo.
