Another storm incoming, hopefully should be able to open up more terrain by New Years. Let’s keep this up!
@SkiLyft your Jackass stoke always makes me want a pass there. I think next year I’ll pull the trigger.
I wouldn’t, lift infrastructure makes no sense, gondy will stop 2-3x each trip, and they can’t bump lifts for shit.

i skied silver once
the whole mountain was a sheet of ice
silver sucks

New philosophy and new lift arrangement in the north since your last visit, but much of that is possible. Bushes could be covered for less whacking. By New Years? Maybe. Hopefully. First lift to 6400' due to open with quite possibly the most exposed rock in history today. The snow is great but the base is thin--hopefully yours aren't!
Worst case, it's not tooo far to Jackass and legit hero conditions
Nothing to see here.
That said, here is a bit more stoke from yesterday. Mountain is getting a reset today and tonight. Sunday is gunna be a gooder!!

other than a bit of kitty litter on the piste
and rimey goggles,
jackass N today was typical early-season.
all the minions were happy
Schweitzer had less than perfect snow conditions and was somewhat crowded today. We had a warm-up event last night with wind, which really put a skin of dense windboard on everything, and made for difficult skiing. Lots were full by 930 and lines were solid most of the morning.
Heard Silver was a ghost town with bottomless pow - they didn't get the warm up. Probably will be the place to ski for this week.
This sounds like misinformation

It is accurate. Yesterday it was 21°f in Sandpoint at 10am and snowing heavily. It was 29°f by 4pm, and 37°f and raining at 10pm. Post front we got wind which with the bump in temps reshaped and sculpted everything in to an egg-shell of modern art stastrugi with a little rime ice thrown in as an extra treat.
The coverage is now excellent but the current snow surface is challenging.
And the lots were full. The lift corrals were quite full. It felt like Christmas week came early.
Hoping it's a good thing in a week or two, though. The light and fluffy all the way down to the rocks thing we had going this week was not kind to skis. Now if we can keep that layer of frozen rain on the side steets for a couple months...
Sounds like fun

I remember that “powder day”.

Staved off the hoards all day, had to fight for fresh turns. Don’t let LVS dissuade you from worshipping at the Ikonic alter. The snow and terrain is MUCH better to the north.

I wish I had bought a house in Wallace not Sandpoint now. Having a bit of an existential crisis after 2 (plus this one) winters with lots of days with weird warm-ups and wind events at Schweitzer while you guys are shredding pow in the Silver Valley. And with Schweitzer getting added as an Ikonic destination and billing themselves as the Vail of Idaho, it's really starting to not add up for me.
Anyone want to buy a small house in Sandpoint?
Yesterday, especially in the morning, sucked with the freezing mist. The afternoon was...okay. I thought the first hour or a little more this morning was pretty good. I had first tracks into Headwall first run and found untracked the next three. My first five runs were pretty good. It had a wind skin on it but not too thick, at least not enough to be a big problem. I still hit a rock or two but way better coverage than earlier in the week.
As for the crowd, yeah, it was bad by 10:30. We skied until 11:00 and called it. This coming couple of weeks will be over the top crowds, I'm sure. I think I'll be at Mt. Spokane for a few days, although I'm sure it will be crowded there, too.
I've been having similar concerns, especially with the Ikon addition. Also, don't know if you heard this but the Davenport Group of hotels in Spokane (5 hotels, 1,800 rooms in total) is in the process of being sold to a company out of Denver, KSL Capital Partners. Among their holdings, their flagship company is Alterra. Kinda makes you wonder what kind of Stay and Ski deals, etc. they'll be offering Ikon Pass holders and how that may affect the crowding.
Anyone want to buy a small condo at Schweitzer?? (Kidding, not to that point yet but....)
Red is on that pass, too, and a stay in Spokane might be just the thing for a lot of people headed north.
Amusing to see the $ folk trying to herd everyone onto buses from the bottom today. Great plan there.
The grass is always greener, that should be your mantra

It is my mantra. I like experiencing possibilities. And there was heavy dose of sarcasm in that post.
