My 3 yr old has been at his daycare for about 15 months now. Its pretty damn cute to see them make their own friends, and tell you about their friends (90% of which is just made up), and then all of a sudden 10 different toddlers know you and get excited when they see you. We had a packed house for his Bday party this year. You will constantly be sick like they say, but its really not that bad because you just get used to it... kindof like how you just got used to being tired the first few months after your kid is born- its just the new normal and you adapt quickly.

I also find it gets better after a few years as the number of sicknesses you've already had goes way up. Now there's typically 1-4 waves a year where everyone gets sick for a hot minute, but is otherwise fine (2 are usually right after summer and winter break).

My 3.5 y/o is in his second month of Preschool and adjusting well. The first few weeks of drop off were tough, but it really helped us to build in a fun routine as part of it. Also if you are in Ballard/north seattle check out the climbing classes at Vertical World. Our kids have gotten so much confidence out of these and they are wonderful in the rainy months to get out some wiggles and energy.

She's 16 months.
We're now 3 weeks in and she's over the hump, no crying at drop off, she doesn't even notice when I leave. She's looking more engaged in all the pics, first couple weeks she'd occasionally be on her own apart from the other kids but now she's always in the mix. She doesn't act like she's being rescued from a day in captivity when I pick her up either which is nice.
The biggest issue at this point is the judgy eyes of the daycare ladies when I drop her off wearing odiously mismatched colors and her hair all messed up from the night. What do they want me to do? I've never had hair longer than 1" and been balding since I was 18, how am I supposed to handle a wiggly kid with long hair? All I can do is the palm tree on top of the head, but when I pick her up she's got these elaborate ponytails tucked into other ponytails and shit, I can barely take them off! I apparently dropped her off with her overalls on backwards last week. Not my fault is the pockets are shaped exactly like the ones on the back of jeans but those are supposed to be in the front. I'm not a damn stylist!

I'm really scared of going for #2 as #1 was so easy on that front. We kicked her out of our bedroom at 4 months old, 1st night her in her own room she slept through the night, 8 to 8. So dreamy. Now I get real annoyed when she wakes up at 6:55 and the alarm is set for 7...

Anyone teach snowboarding at 2.5? Our boy is adamant that mama and papa ski and he snowboard.


Everything is a gas right now. Halloween party yesterday, today he sampled through a Prada wearing granny’s order at the cheese store. Tomorrow we ride bikes in Griffith Park. Salad days. He’s starting to think he doesn’t need a nap.

Come kick it next summer. Santa Monica, Topanga, etc. L will have a normalish schedule and preschool doesn’t start until August. We will be in SLC latest February for a long weekend. It will be good to get the boys together.

If you grew up playing sports with your dad, and sometimes get a little burned out with the amount of time dedicated to youth sports with your kids, this will hit you.

ghosthop - I don't think it's impossible he could learn to snowboard that early....

I don't know how you get your hands on them, but our ski and ride school has a ton of tiny dry land snowboarding tools. Stuff like balance boards with a handle bar, little skate deck indoor leaning tools, etc.

I think that's the route I'd go, maybe just straight up trying to skate a little in the driveway.

I want to live in a world where they can do, and be, anything they want. And even just like feel safe and heard and like they have value. And I feel like more and more I'm waking up in an America that doesn't feel the same way about women.

Yes I’m with you. She’s 19 and this father is more worried than ever for her.

Yeah, my girl is 12. She was terrified last night watching this all unfold. Its sickening as a dad of a daughter to be going through this.

I don't have any female offspring, but I have a wife, and a niece, and lots of female offspring of friends... and I'm horrified for them, to be quite honest. Not to mention all my family and friends that aren't straight, white Christians. :mad:
