ON3P SKIS Discussion

Looking for two recommendations:

1. Need a ski for cruising groomers (doing some volunteer instructing), an occasional fast lap in chop, etc. Don't care how they do in soft, do care how they do in hard, variable snow. I have Kartels 108s, and stiff folsom primary for good snow playtime. I'm fat (230), 6'2" , strong, don't turn too much. Are either of the wren 88/98 gonna hit the spot? Feels like the 184 might be too short.

2. I think it's getting on towards time to replace my 2010/2011 191 BGs (or whatever year had RES only on 191). Really, the new ones will be more of a quiver ski. Is the newest BG still my best option, or should I wait to learn about the powder ski teaser? I love the RES, I'm willing to give up some of the unflappability in hard/bad snow, since I am not too likely to be on these for as many days after a storm. I am NOT getting rid of my 191 BGs. Wouldn't mind a ski that's a bit easier on me when I slow it down.

Indeed. I'm guessing for a 6'0" 185 lb. frame that the 189 is the play for the Wren 108, yah?

Probably would want the 189, yes. I will say that the 184 is surprisingly stable and I am 5'10" and 195lbs and ski that length most of the time now.

If you generally like longer skis go 189.

And... just did a thing. New Wren 108 and BillyGoat purchased. Both in 189.

My heart races and my hands shake. Mega stoked on new skis in a good long while. :yourock:

Now... who wants to buy some Viciks, Rocker2 108s, LP XXLs or 196 Renegades? :D

you're going to be stoked on both of those. I've said before that could be a two-ski quiver for many/most snowy places.

Lulz. With no steezy green sidewalls, I had to get some steeze somewhere.

Finally got my Wren 108's in some legit powder at Kirkwood yesterday (after buying them at the end of last season) and I have to say they are definitely improved in soft snow over the old Wren 112's. They also are a little quicker in tight spaces. Not that I ever would, but I could own these as a one ski quiver and be perfectly happy.

Personally I think they ski great on the line (and I’m almost always more of a Wren type skier). If you are going to go back and prefer that style mount I would go -1cm from the line tops for your size.

Going to be skiing kirkwood for a few days after Christmas, if you're around, I'd love to catch some turns with you.

After a long time researching, I'm finally joining the BG club. Just ordered a pair of stock 184's from ON3P, and can't wait. Stoked about the upcoming ski season and my updated quiver:

180 Praxis BC's for the BC
181 ON3P Jeffreys
170 Rossi E88s
184 ON3P Billygoat

I really wanted a ski specifically for pow days, and I love the Jeffrey's, so it was really difficult to choose between the K116 and the BG. Ultimately, I never go backwards, wanted a great tree ski, and decided that the K116 and Jeffrey would likely be too much overlap. Hopefully I'll be another voice in the chorus of BG praise in a few months.

I will definitely be up in Truckee from Dec 28 - Jan 5th or so... it's a haul down to Kirkwood but every time I make it out there I tell myself I need to go more often. Even when conditions are awesome it's still never that crowded.

FWIW I liked the older Jeffreys about 2cm behind the line quite a bit better than the recommended point. The Kartel's I only skied on the line for a couple runs, but I would have considered mounting them back 1-2cm if I purchased as well. I am very definitely a Wren style skier though and strongly dislike centered mount points, so I'm probably a bit of anomaly. Powtron's recommendation of 0-1cm is probably good.

I do feel like the skis with elliptical sidecut are more tolerant of moving the mount point since the sidecut is pretty straight underfoot. Anything bi-radius should stay within 1cm of recommended and anything RES should always go on the line.
