Just traded in two 13 mini's for two 16 pros with ATT. They didn't take the mini's at the store, apparently they are sending me a shipping label and I'll have to mail them in. Store rep said I'd most likely get hit with one months payment for the phones before the returns got processed. Changed plans too, added some discounts and am coming out slightly cheaper per month than what I paid before.
Really enjoying this 16 pro so far.
Gotten used to the size increase although it is still occasionally annoying (especially as a lefty)...Camera is fantastic and I've had it in the "battery preservation" mode where it doesn't charge above 80% and that's still been fine for my usage. Figure I will turn that off whenever I start feeling the need and it will be like having a whole new battery.
The telephoto lens is very impressive. Although I had hoped it would be a good portrait lens and it is really too long for that in most situations at 5X. Better for wildlife or actual tele applications, but I would have preferred the 3X lens on the 13/14/15 Pro for things like "I'm taking a photo of someone on top of a mountain and I want to bring the mountains in the background closer"
After my Pixel 5 screen was damaged, likely due to a swelling battery, I had to wait for the Pixel 9 Pro to be released in Canada. In the meantime, I used my old Pixel 3 with CalyxOS, and it performed reasonably well.
Now I’ve been using the Pixel 9 Pro for a few weeks. First impressions? The Pixel 5 still had the best form factor, and I loved that the front camera was in the corner. I rarely use the selfie camera anyway, but maybe this one will surprise me.
The Pixel 9 Pro screen, though, is amazing. It’s incredibly crisp yet easy on the eyes. Kind of like a very high DPI color e-reader. Even better, it’s the first screen I’ve been able to read in full sunlight while touring.
I’m leaning toward the 16 Pro to replace my Mini. Playing around with one the size didn’t bother me much but the weight difference is significant. Not thrilled with having that bounce around when mtbing etc
I thought it was heavy at when it first arrived but I got used to it fast and no issues with it bouncing around when biking any more than the mini.
Doesn’t fit in the waist belt pocket of my hip pack though. The mini did which was nice if I was riding in bottoms that don’t have a zipper only.
I'm a year or so with the Pixel 8 Pro and other than needing to be restarted too often it's great. I wouldn't want any bigger though so maybe when I'm ready to replace the 10 Pro level will have size options.
Ok bitching time. The pixel 9 pro with all it's AI still can't dial a phone number without "first you will have to unlock". My car figured out voice dialing in 06. Do better google. Also, it seems to be a mess between a bunch of assistants and voices. AOSP custom ROMs while lacking some features seem to be more polished than google.
I am also looking for a recommendation if there is some kind of assistant that can help me organize my nuclear ADHD. I simply want something that I can throw tasks in a few lists.
This has turned into a pain in the ass. Labels never came so I called ATT, phone rep said no, you only get $700 per phone based on the date you made the transaction. I had an emailed quote from the store manager that I shared with ATT phone rep. She said sorry, doesn't work that way. So I went back to the store quote in hand and the kid working there said that based on the date of my trade you are only eligible for 700 per phone, here are a couple of shipping labels and boxes but if you'd like to talk to the manager he'll be in tomorrow and maybe he can fix it. So I go back the next day, wait for more than half an hour to talk to the manager and he starts pulling up details and tells me that I am eligible for the 1000. I get the strong vibe that he is lying so I try to get him to provide me something in writing which of course he has every excuse that he can't do. We finally agree that if I don't get credited the full 1000 after mailing them in that I can come back and see him in store and he can fix it. My gut tells me that he won't be working there anymore.
Google has a Tasks right under their Calendar application that every Google Android phone has on it. You can go to the 3 lines in the upper left corner with calendar open and see the list and get notifications. If that does not work for you, I'd bet there are a ton of Task Management 3rd party Apps on Google Play and sort the search by ratings and try one or 2 of the highest rated apps if you need more.
Do I get a Pixl 9 or 8a?
The swipe up feature on my iphonexmax is intermittently dying. It seemed for a while that rubbing it in my jeans to build static was fixing it. But now suddenly not. Memory is maxxed and I'm purging, just downloaded ios18 but still having trouble.
Yeah going to do the trade in for the 14. But need to download all the photos first. Having trouble with that as noted in the other thread in photo forum...
That's interesting. But 10,000 photos and do not need them on the phone, need to get them on the PC and process the work pics and delete.
I purged several videos and it helped the swipe up thing some. Figured maybe other tricks. It's a known problem according to web search.
Existing Google Fi users can pick up some sweet deals. I'm thinking of the S24 for $300. I know that the S25 is right around the corner. The 24 looks like a better phone than the Pixel 9 for less money.
Pulled the trigger on an S24, 256GB for $360 and a Galaxy watch 7 for $180. Deals end tomorrow and the supplies are dwindling, they've sold out of some things.
Still really happy with the Moto G Stylus bought in 2022 for a little over $200. Does everything I need well, large screen, stylus for notes and a 3.5 headphone jack as I will not wear wireless ear anything. O and it takes waaaaay better photos than my wife's Apple.
I have that one and the 2023 version. My kids do as well. We've found they don't age well and have gotten glitchy, and battery degrades even with care. I also got them at the Fi price, so while I was really happy at first, they sorta became disposable phones. I don't like that. Also, I was using one as a BYOD for work and got kicked off the internal access because the OS has to be at least n-1. I'm looking forward to going back to a phone that has longer support. I will miss the headphone jack, but I didn't use it that often.
Huh? I am easy on my stuff, as shit costs money and I spend enough as it is. Not having the jack is a deal killer for me.
Looks like a Pixel 9 does have a 3.5mm headphone jack, so maybe my next phone. Oops, chat lied to me. :fuckyou:
These work IME:

I've had mixed luck with those adapters for headphone use. Seems like they work OK for a little bit, then the connection doesn't stay solid. I don't think it's an issue with the USB port on my phone, as there's never a problem with plugging it in to charge or connect to the car (wired android auto).
Current phone is a Pixel 6a, happy with it, had it about a year now. Don't know how long it'll be supported going forward though. I'm guessing that by black Friday next year I'll be looking for a new phone.
Guess again.
