Shit you built with your own two hands (picture thread)

Suspended a 10 foot Christmas tree about 10 feet off the ground. Started by building, hoisting and leveling a platform.

Setup some scaffolding and started setting up the tree. Sucker was heavy - probably 500 lbs for all sections.

Roped up and continued adding tree sections.

Added ornaments, covered the platform and secured the tree with guide wires. Finished product from the inside.

Got insurance?

Own house. It stayed up last year without crushing anyone, so hoping for the best. Also got it a bit more secured this year so it doesn't sway back and forth if people are pushing on the railings.

I'm just thinking of the late night gift placement, and drunk and hungover retrieval. Cool concept and execution though.

Based the design on a Craftsman Rug patterm we found on line, making it from Brazilian Mahogany and Maple/Birds Eye Maple. This is for the floor in the Den.

eldereldo, is that all going to be glued down? And do you do this sort of thing for a living or just fun?

Corners and features will be put down with construction adhesive. I will be routing grooves all around the outside so I can fit them together with the rest of the hardwood to further lock it in place.

It is just for fun, although sometimes I think I make it more like work, than fun.

Buddy had a T-1000 canoe trailer unassembled and rotting in the ivy in the backyard. So, I took the wheel assembly and fenders and built this from scratch. Finished it Veteran's day.

I need a new hobby for the wintertime and have limited space. I have a welder, but metal is so damned expensive. This thread is inspiring, to be sure. I'm thinking about attempting some river rock furniture, maybe using metal/welder and rock I scavenge. Anybody know anything about this?

My architect was a crackhead and by the time I figured it out, we were already to far in to change anything else. The end product is cool, but the process was a huge pain. Great technology for one story stuff, but not a 35' tall house.

I saw these plaster castings in person and they really are beautiful :) I'm impressed w/the fact that Frannie never did a cast before and has never even taken a sculpture class. Lots of talent here!

Used to be, that's the only way we could stay up all night and finish all the f'n drawings for our projects. We did four days straight once... then went to see the Dead at Barton Hall 1977... literally and figuratively.
