Is there a summer trail that goes towards the incredible hulk?
Couldn't find it on the map.

Thanks for the report Blaster, felt those cool breezes today while mountain biking and was regretting not hunting for corn, back on the program for the rest of the week
Yup, you start on the Barney lake trail in mono village, then you peel off left about 2.5miles in at a big flat topped boulder, climbers trail goes across the creek on a logjam, then continues up the rocks on the east side of the mouth of little slide canyon, it benches out and then continues all the way to the hulk. Snow currently starts up on the bench in little slide canyon.
the climbers trail is marked as blue dots on CalTopo

I love how cushy spring overnight trips on the eastside can be. Camping on dirt, running water so no need to endlessly melt snow, and still very nice corn on North aspects.
Tons of fun options around.

Ms IB and I are keen to do an Eastern Sierra spring touring trip maybe in 2026. Is this the book to geek out on in the meantime?

Thank you [emoji120]
that’s the book you want
Didn't see a 24/25 thread, so figured this is the right spot.Heading up to the Mammoth area this weekend for some touring. Given the amount of snow coming in, figure that low-angle and trees is probably our best bet. I've skied Bishop Bowl a couple of times and have that as a solid option, but any other recs for lower angle terrain as far north as Lee Vining-ish?
Couldn’t find a current thread so bumping the most recent banner year.

Dana Plateau coverage. 500 ish vert walk to skiable snow in V bowl.

The cornice on solstice relatively small.

Good coverage in the saddlebag lakes area too.
Kindergarten chute a couple weeks ago. Had hoped to ski checkered demon but after scoping from the bottom and the top it didn't appear to go. Snow was great and we were able to drive to continuous snow at 8500 feet. Kind of ideal snow levels for those of us who make up for lack of fitness with 4 wheel drive skills. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...d2314b1cd4.jpg
The next day we did powerhouse, also great pow all the way through the lower choke. Always love being on the plateau! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...0a1ca04104.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...8849f80102.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...4c054412fc.jpg
On Friday we did Bloody. It hadn't been high on my list for some reason, but was pretty cool. The approach kinda sucked, too much snow to drive very far, not enough to ski out very far. The couloir itself was surprisingly good, chunky soft snow with a little edgeable windboard mixed in. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...fc4d699908.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c6e6847105.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...8385d6aafa.jpg
Sunday we attempted mini pinner. We were too late to top out. At 0900 we were about half an hour from the top, but the snow was already boot unsupportable. There was also water running below the snowpack. We called it. Right thing to do, but tough to be that close. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...036a65aa86.jpg
Wineglass on Sunday. Dropped in at about 2pm and the upper slopes still hadn't softened. Middle and bottom were excellent though.

Nice work! Thanks for posting.
No pictures to contribute, but seeing lots of iffy lines that should be in with an "average" snowpack. Twin lakes is melted about 1000' above the lakes, lots of windfucked lines in Sherwin-Wheeler ridge area(but Wineglass couloir was somehow in this year, only good line i've skied this spring here). I think Buttermilk is a bit better. Found a new resource(at least for me) with recent satellite imagery, can save you from driving to completely bare lines in the future.https://sierra.report/conditions/sno...ellite-imagery
First time I've been able to log in for awhile, old news now but I rode my fat bike past the closure on vigina lakes road in the middle of april https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2Odk6s1RDc
pics from last weekend.
South lake area. Good corn and a few mag sightings.

Someday I’ll do a multi day trip through le conte.
Then out of McGee creek. Esha is pretty skied up and choppy but only a 300ft hike to the snow line.

Esha. Chunky chutes. Smooth panels on the lookers left.
Great pics and thanks for sharing Blaster. So bummed I can't make it to the East side this spring.
I think I saw you on Esha? With the BC105s?

Wow things are still looking good! Heading up with a friend on Sunday, planning to camp/ski a few nights up at rock creek and ski some other lines. Thanks for the stoke in this website window we got
(Also, how did you manage to get photos up? Never thought I'd see those again on this website)

It looks like Gilbert in the picture with you skiing.
Was the lake frozen?

South Lake is not frozen.
Gilbert is in my pic, but can’t really see the ski line.
But here ya go!
(Oddly the photo functionality has changed yet again since I posted my last photo. Who knows if this will work.)

Nice Mike
This was my Sonora season opener, probably the finest conditions I’ve ever had there.

NOICE!!!!
Big fire happening in the Lee Vining area (supposedly started near the Mono Inn north of town). 395 closed through there.
Uh oh re: the inn fire
Some photos from Rock Creek these past few days:
There’s great skiing to be had, but I’d do it as an overnight trip. There’s something like 5 miles of super annoying postholey gloppy approach, the real continuous snow starts somewhere between long and treasure lakes.
View from long lake:

The approach is about 5 miles of slog from the pack station to treasure lakes… my friend was not about to bootpack the skin track

Lots of good skiing to be had but even for the lines up at 13000 you have to wake up seriously early
Stupid of me to think that would work. Is Tapatalk the only way for photos?
Anyone have any recent info/obsevations on Tioga Pass?
The SF Backcountry skiers Facebook group is pretty good for posting beta pics including recent pics from tioga. https://m.facebook.com/groups/1150152011668361/
Also some good people watching of war stories of city folks epic’ing in the mountains. Though it’s hard to bag on them too much as relative to the rest of the internet everyone is super nice.
Heard from a friend today that there hasn’t been a hard freeze in a while. Saddlebag Lake still has ice snow, and the skeeter hatch and mud festival hasn’t started in the 20 lakes basin.
