Fucking gaper day. At least it didn’t get tracked out too fast because everyone was pounding beers in the lot until 9.

Fucking gaper day. At least it didn’t get tracked out too fast because everyone was pounding beers in the lot until 9.
Yeah holy smokes. Skied 8:30-11 and got powder turns all morning plus Pali line was never really that bad (seen worse on normal powder Saturdays) but holy shit I’d never seen a line of traffic like that to park in the morning. I know the pass was closed but still. Soo many cars parked on the highway when I left too.
The people participating in gaper day were in fact themselves gapers. Great skiing tho!
Yep, skiing was great. Snow was better than copper yesterday. Not as heavy and sticky.
I left shortly after you. Came back up the pass at 2 and they were towing the dumb fucks who didn’t realize they parked perpendicular across the right lane of the last passing zone before the Basin. [emoji38]
Probably some real life April Fools going on right now as these spunions get back to find their cars are gone!
Showed up at 1p and hiked a few laps on the EW. I wonder how many cars got towed. It was madness in the parking lots, but on the hill was pretty mellow. Glad i went. Last laps were windy as hell. Hope it buffs out the spine for tomorrow.
Haha they Highway Patrol put it on twitter

Haha I was just going to post this. What fucking idiots.

Never read the comments certainly applies. Is that ski area overflow or what?
Saw this chick dressed up in an easter bunny thong suit bending over to put on her ski boots on the side of the road. Big ol white ass in the air, bunny ears, and all. It was entertaining to say the least. Lots of people bailed on going up that day or turned around because of traffic. I think I just got lucky and persevered past the madness to get on the hill and got some great skiing in without having to really interact with any of the debauchery in the parking lot. People seemed to be having a good time though, nothing wrong with that. It definitely still wasn't as crazy as the old Cardboard Derby days.
The parking on the side of the road thing was typical and the sheriff was clearly prepared and very efficient at the towing. Honestly though, why not just prepare for the madness and have a plan of action to allow people to park on the side of the road for one day?
^^^ because as you know STUPIDITY and SUMMIT COUNTY go hand in hand a match made in heaven
you let it slide one day to be nice and people will take it as an ok to do the other 364 days a year
just like the guy with the 100lb pack full of rei gear floundering around on victoria and peak 1 for 16 hrs and finally had to call search and rescue even though there is four skin tracks and endless ski tracks up there
if dumb shit can happen it happens in scummit
There were plenty of cars parked parallel on the side of the road that I’m sure were not towed.
Still dangerous with those fuel tankers cruising up and down the pass, but at least parking parallel on the side shows some amount of common sense compared to the fucking morons above.
Side note: Every time I look at that picture I lol at the backed-in F-150.
^^^ yes, re: the F150.
That’s a decently long walk back down to those vehicles from AB. Imagine the panic/horror/confusion after a day of drinking and partying, you’re walking down the shoulder in a bunny thong, turn that last corner, and see no vehicles parked where you are sure you parked. LMFAO.
I mean...expect maximum retardation and be surprised when it isn't?
The apres "changing into my driving clothes" scene has basically turned into OnlyFans it seems. If it happens at Winter Park I can't even imagine what goes down at the cool places. I guess when chick more or less take photos of their business in the mirror at the gym with the "what do you think?" lookback it's to be expected.
Let do the math. Bluebird day+powder day+Saturday+Gaper day+A-bay!= Embrace the Chaos!
Not like Al didn’t see it coming. I appreciate the fact they weren't searching peoples back packs at the lift this year. Recycling bins were set up at the lift and full of beer cans. But maybe talk to Keystone about parking people at the conference center and bussing them up? Something?
Are you new here? The time between local spring break and Memorial Day (or really July 4th) in a wet spring is basically one long "the Monday to Wednesday before Thanksgiving that runs into New Years".
Nobody in any admin position does jackshit in the mountain towns. The kids mail it in until Summer. The seasoned school staff do the same. The tourist staff and the ski area are just holding on. Its a powerful force that its best to not stand in front of.
How many dick bag eaters were at gaper day? Was it parked way up the pass?

Looks like they managed to tow at least 1/4 of the jagoffs.

Morans.
Yesterday at the basin was absolute insanity.
At noon, the lots were full and people weren't leaving. That is when people would usually start to trickle out. Instead crowds were waiting to get in.
But there were cars parked up against the gates at the lower lot. I drove up to the upper lots and there was a line of cars waiting to get in the lot. OK. I guess I'll turn around and drive 5min down to Keystone.
But I couldn't turn around!
The line to get into the upper lots just went up westbound US6... it was over a mile long on US6 extending up around the switchbacks. All the hazmat semis and other travelers were caught up in it. The line wasn't moving at all. Not one bit of motion. I understood it to be well over an hour's wait. The only way out of the mess was to go over the pass and through the tunnel, about a 30 minute detour. The semis didn't have that choice.
There were cars parked all along the highway. and in all the pullouts, but this isn't what was blocking the road. It was the people waiting to get into the lots that had the mile long standstill.
Absolute insanity. I cannot imagine how furious I would be if I was a truck driver held up by skiers parked in the highway waiting for an abasin parking attendant to decide enough people had left the lots to open the gate and let a few more people in letting the line of cars inch forward 100 yards.
All of this on a breezy greybird day with poor contrast and shit to mediocre snow with all the other resorts still open. Yea man, buy an abasin pass! No crowds!
You aren't in traffic, you are traffic. ;). Can't you take the bus from Keystone? Were you carpooling?
Like the truckers have never held anyone up before. I was stuck behind a 2+ mile line of traffic because of one hazmat truck over the pass a few years ago.
I do hope this all helps convince Al to get off the Ikon pass next season.
I think it’s all of the above.
They’ve got figure something out, I feel like we’re getting back to the Epic shit show days.
Glad I met friends at copper. Conditions were shit anyway.
Friday afternoon at Basin was great spring skiing though.
Yeah you can. Ask any Larry Lakewood. Its about how furious they get at truck drivers messing with their skiing.Quote:

Re: They have to do something about it. No They don't. Its a choice. Its fucking skiing. We can always just not go.
We all like to be all dramatic about our priorities. From a public policy perspective nobody gives a shit and nor should they. It not a real societal problem. The ski resorts, the local governments, CDOT (a bit) and others pander a bit.
Skiers are just turning into whiny bitches. When you think you have the solution, ask yourself, "with who's money and why". We get 6months of skiing all over the place for $1k.
Expect that it is gonna be busy all the time. When it isn't, be happily surprised. Cry in your beer all you want. We ain't going back. Lucky, great uncrowded turns exist for those with a bit of skill and perseverance.
not going to happen for next season but maybe ikon reservations for saturdays and sundays would help?
That’s what I was thinking ^^^
Reservations for Ikoners on weekends.
I get Summit’s rage. That’s pretty amazing that the fastest way back to Keystone was to go over the pass, down through the tunnel, and around.
The problem this time of year is parking, not really skier numbers. A lot of folks just go there to party on the weekends and not ski. Make it easier to ride the bus there and you'll help ease the parking issue.
Questions: not ski at all or get their IKON scanned at all or take a couple runs but mostly hang out in the mud?Quote:

Would the FS permit allow Abasin to require a pass (and scan) to park.
I had more than one person in the car.
It is 40 minutes and 2 busses for me to get to A-Basin vs 5 minutes by car. The bus from River Run to A Basin only runs once an hour.
me tooQuote:

Unless you happen to be one of the very very few lucky enough to live on a route and have your job on the same route, the Stage is for people who have no choices like they lost their car or their license and don't have a friend to give them a ride.
