Does the Tron bike and other prems actually make you ‘faster’?
Sadly, yes. Some equipment is faster than others. Virtual equipment speed tests linked below ... if you can believe it.
https://zwiftinsider.com/category/re...e/speed-tests/
I assume you're talking feet? 123,000ft of the 135,007 ft needed. I didn't have my challenge set to Everest during my first month of my riding. I think I gave away almost 5,000m/16,400ft before I realized how the challenges worked.
Yes, the better bikes and wheels are faster. The new 2021 Canyon Aeroroad climbing bike (Level 23, 532,500 points) is 13 seconds faster on the Alp Du Zwift over 50 minutes.
Hate to say it, but ZwiftInsider dropped the '21 Aeroroad from the list and the Tarmac SL7 and Cannondale EVO are back at the top.

I just used my drops to get the '21 Aeroroad and the above was actually something I read and thought about before buying the bike (/DefTheNerdiestThingI'veEverSaid)
Yes talking in feet - I show 164k total needed (IIRC). I lost vert as well, I did the Cali and Italy challenge after the initial 36k on Everest.
Spec Tarmac and some Enve wheels were noticeably faster on climbs. TT bikes are also noticeably faster, but you can't draft others. That Zwift Insider link has good info (and the website in general is a good follow to better understand Zwift)
If it is an A or B group ride or any race I don't even try to get back on when I fall off a group. At least if I want to be able to walk the next day. Nothing like ruining your mountain bike ride on Sunday because you tried to close a gap in zwift on Saturday.
Those zwift blob dynamics definitely take some adjustment. What's weird to me is how much it speeds you up and also how much draft effect you get on climbs, as it takes quite a bit to "un-stick" you, even on like a 6-7% grade. But at the same time you get less of a draft than you would in real life. Also good luck trying to get away. We had a really strong quasi-pro cx racer in our race the other night, and at our real wed night cx races he's usually out of sight with our fast junior after about half a lap. He put out a whole lot more power than all the rest of us, kept trying to attack the group, and despite him doing absurd numbers the blob of us would always catch up even though no one was doing the same w/kg. Glad I was able to learn the "don't try a solo break" lesson without actually trying to do it myself.
Anyway, fun race again, casse pattes has a pretty good climb right at the end and I thought that was where things were going to explode, but a pretty big group made it over together, I think in part thanks to that blob effect. Then the finish line comes up really quick. Results on the meetup races are never right unfortunately, apparently because it has everyone do the same distance, from where they're lined up on the side of the road before the start, so no one has the same finish line. My apparent result is not where I wound up and it put me behind a guy who was seconds back and not even in the sprint.

Had sound for myself, but didn't say a whole lot. First little aquaduct climb is about 20min in.
NBD!

Just noticed the new vid, J. Will watch later.
I am a dummy. I just realized today how finishing a complete route gives you a shitload of XP to level up. I almost NEVER finish actual routes. I am always fucking around taking turns and not following the route I started. Idiot.
Well after a 7 mo hiatus hopping back on after dirt season. Never really paid attention to drops of levels but I have like 1.2m drops. Guess it’s time to shop. Did a group ride happen?

That is what I did wrong at the beginning as well. Make sure you choose a route up front and let the program guide you through the route. Don't add any turns or u-turns.
I think that I jumped from about level 23 to 29 by chasing routes last winter.

6am Sunday Zwift crashed on me at the start of a race so I went looking for a ride. France is on there. Cool. I’ll finally tackle Ventoux. Jesus. That thing just never relents at all. The AdZ feels like a fun little hill in comparison.
Ok, what should I buy? I don't use it all that much, and never for routes, so I'm just level 10. Are the things by the water drop the points you guys are talking about? I have like 650,000.
Menu, then Badges while in the game. Then take a few photos of that while you scroll down to capture what you are missing.
Use zwiftinsider.com and a spreadsheet to capture the data of how long and how much climbing is needed for each value, then buckle in for 60 days :)

EWG - poke around zwiftinsider.com for what you can buy at each level. It might be worth waiting until level 12 pr 15 (iirc).

Here you go

I think they have a link within there to a spreadsheet, or a way to copy/paste to your own

Only got a minute on my Tron, had to go to work. I opened it this morning on the Ventoux, knew I was close, just kept riding up hill until the unlock popped up on my screen. Looking forward to racing it, thing is sick looking!
I have the cannondale evo and dt swiss wheels. It's a fast and light combo and is pretty similar to my real life bike which is nice. You can't make it black though.
A way to keep track of the routes you've done is a good idea since you can't see your badges until you're already in the game at which point you can't pick a route anymore. Which is annoying, it would be nice if it put a little check or something next to the route. Also if you could do a couple of short ones in a single ride instead of having to quit and restart. Well, maybe if you manually navigate a route it counts it?
Here's a printable list

Or just stamp a check mark on each one in adobe reader.
You dropped your Aero power up just a hair too early, J! Fun watch
"Hi, my name is John, and I think I want to get addicted to Zwift this winter."
I have a road bike, nothing else (yet).
(1) Kickr Core vs. Snap: I get a slight discount (15% off-ish) on Wahoo, via a .mil discount. I was thinking Core b/c of expense and b/c I have an 11-speed 105 cassette and the GF (who will likely run the peloton app) has 10-speed tiagra and changing cassettes sounds like a huge hassle. That said, switching out rear wheels for a dedicated 'trainer tire' wheel seems like a PITA, as does constantly recalibrating the thing. Thoughts / recommendations? Should I be looking at something else (don't think I get a discount on any of the others)?
(2) I'm planning to run the software on my iPhone or MacBook - and then share the screen to my TV via Apple TV (have an old, non-4K one). Does this work?
(3) Any problem with using an old yoga mat as a trainer mat - it's already fucked, I don't care about it - or am I missing something?
1- A wheel-off trainer like the Core is so much nicer that a wheel-on trainer. Buts its complicated with you being 11s and the wife bike being 10s.
The Peloton is bit of a different beast, Ive read where its not really worth following the classes on a regular bike and trainer.
2-Use the Zwift Companion App on your iPhone, and run the Zwift off of of your MacBook (you can HDMI strait into the TV?). With your Iphone and MacBook on the same wifi the Companion App takes the Bluetooth signal from your trainer and transfers it to your MacBook. The Companion App also works as a good remote for to control the game.
3-Yoga mat will work fine to absorb sweat, and insulate the sound a bit.
Get a fan(s) it makes all the difference in the world once yogurt hot.
Will your GF really switch bikes in and out of the trainer when she wants to use it?
Are you and GF anywhere near the same size? If so, maybe one bike on the Core, swapping seatposts as needed.

We bought a Snap, mainly because our gearing is different; it seems like a minor thing, but swapping the bikes around is a pain in the ass. Get direct drive, and have one less excuse to skip the workout.
We run 9, 10 and 11 speed bikes on our 11 speed Core. Works fine, but that’s because we only run it in erg mode. No shifting.

That’s a smart idea, but doesn’t ERG only kind of eliminate the ability to race/do group rides in Zwift?
In ERG mode you do a pre-determined workout. The trainer adjusts to keep you at the correct workload as it changes throughout the workout.
Additionally, the trainer will automatically account for your cadence/gearing.
If you pedal faster (or go into a bigger gear) the resistance decreases to keep wattage in the right range. Pedal slower and the resistance increases.
All this means that you can pick one gear during an ERG mode workout and let the smart trainer control everything.
wife and I share a tacx genius, it isn't that hard to swap bikes, just takes a couple minutes. I'm not into cartoon video game racing and have been using Rouvy, I like riding 'real' routes and roads, and it has pretty good HD vid of classic climbs or bits of races, or training shit if you want, they also have scheduled races if you're into that. I treat it like a poor mans riding vacation in other countries since I get real video of the route, ha! It's pretty cheap compared to Zwift too, think we paid $10usd/mth on a 6month plan and you can have a couple family members on the same plan.
I think I am going to start the "pick off all the routes" project. Only at level 9. I guess that's a side effect of riding outside too much?
I REALLY need a new trainer. Kinectic Road Machine is not great.
that would be my guess, I did a crit last night and shifted my ass off. Man did I have a busy real life Fall, all my hard earned fitness gains from covid zwift then riding IRL faded away. I managed to hang onto a group of 6-8 towards the back of the D group, 93 riders total!
