To complicate matters there are several different brands that use water as the resistance source. The one I have is made by First Degree Fitness. Bottom line is it's probably impossible to directly compare times across different models.

First time ever seeing how fast I can 2k since my wife bought this thing. Not terrible since I didn't warm up at all. I faded down the stretch as a result. Shame on me. Attachment 412958
Nice work everyone on putting up times and technique. Its fun to see what settings, stroke rate and gas level everyone has. Keep it up. Love the vibe here.
I did a 5k a couple days ago after being off the machine for a week. Went to the boulder gym for the first time a totally destroyed my arm muscles. Who knew climbing was so hard ? Ha !
The 5k was tough after i did 8 sets of 500m with a rest in between. Tried to keep my 500m sets at around 1:50 to 1:55 split.
Pulled my 5k time in at 21.11 min. Boy was that hard. Had to actually stop a few times. Attachment 412978
Just checking what the rowing maggots do. They've broken the rowers back out at the crossfit gym and I'm getting back into the groove. I have the unfair advantage of being 6'3" and I have long ape arms so rowing comes easier for me with a long stroke. Need to check back in on a 2k, but we did a 2'-3'-4'-3'-2' warmup yesterday with 30 sec rest inbetween sets and maintains an easy 2min/500 pace the whole time.
I don't think I ever better than a 7:45/800m. Endurance wasn't ever my big thing, but 1:40 500's were followed by a lot of gasping and moving on to another movement as quick as possible. Curious if anyone here ever did a max effort burst just to see how high you can get the cal/hour meter. You stop once the computer clicks twice without increasing.
The bungee cord on my rower broke a couple days ago. Hopefully it's not too difficult to replace.
No, it was just a group of us trying to see how high we could make the cal/hr tick (the display updates every second or two). You could do the same with watts, but I wouldn't recommend 500m split times, the difference in effort between a 1:15 and 1:20 split is exponential. Highest single tick was the benchmark and if it dropped for more than two ticks in a row, you peaked and can stop. The goal of the exercise was to find a max effort measurement so you know where 40-50% effort is and that's your sustained cruising speed. Turns out that max effort number is a lot higher than most of us thought and it was useful information in pacing ourselves. I don't think anyone pulled for more than 20 seconds before peaking, the reality is most people are only good for 3-4 true max effort pulls in a row.
Impressive work everyone, just willingly putting yourself on the erg to the point of being doubled over, gasping deserves applause.
Been over a decade since the last time I saw this. Good to see people still having the conversations with themselves on the erg. The erg season is ending for me, nothing delivers like the erg and it's ability to make you question what your doing and how much you can dig out.
the last 5x 2k pyramid from last week. Hoping it can give some motivation to someone.
Sorry it is sideways, give up trying to fix it.

It’s all relative.
I will get a million meters in from the end of hunting season until now. It is my morning meditation before facing the world 3-4 x/week.
There is something even more impressive about just showing up and cranking a sub7
Keep charging, it’s a worthless, totally fulfilling reward
Was away from this wretched beast of mockery for about a week.
Did 10x500m with 30 sec rest. Tried to keep my stroke rate at 20 s/m and a 1:55 split. Man that is hard.
Cooked a 7:33 2k at the end of it all. Pretty happy with the results. Stroke rate was about 26 and setting on 5
Kingdom - that is some sweet work, I'm impressed. 5 x 2000m pieces, nice on the low stroke rate, really powering those strokes. You are in great shape!
I am in a shape
Spent this winter experimenting with aerobic base UT1/2 pieces. Lots of 60+ min. The weather here kept me off the bike the other day so…https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...b5b2a0c7b5.jpg
January I was capped at 170W to keep the HR zone, so the system adapted well
No speed work though, so it makes 2K and under feel like a bear.
Last winter “trained” for a 2k for my 46th birthday, followed Xeno’s plan for the most part.

There are some good workouts to play with for you all looking for a little power. Highly recommend

Congrats on winning the height lottery. lol
FWIW, > 165 is considered a heavyweight by C2 standards.

Not sure it belongs in here but I got out on the water for the second time, the first being just a test float. I bashed my knee a bunch on one side, got humbled by the leverage, and somehow felt lopsided the whole time. But I went for a bit over 3 miles across the lake and back since the sun was out and it wasn't too choppy. Fun stuff.
Any advice on learning how to do it?
I finally got my rower fixed. It definitely wasn't as easy as I thought it would be, but now that I know how to do it I could make the repair again in about 15 minutes. Is that how these things go?
Damn, reading through some of the past posts, you guys are killing it. I always just did 500m as a warm up for working out, and really wasn't doing much of either recently til the last two months, but I've been out riding my bike a bunch, and hitting the gym again, and of course I picked up a brand new c2.
I was feeling pretty good about my 1500m at 1:56/500. S/m was consistently 22/23.
I got a lot of work to do. Back to work...
I row a few times a week and have for a couple of years now. Currently using a Concept 2 C with a PM2+ monitor. I am contemplating upgrading the machine to the PM5 monitor, but trying to find a way to justify the expense. Any thoughts? Darts and fishing games sound good, but not something I would realistically use, at least much. Same thing with the set workout plans that can be downloaded. Basically, I am not sure there is much an advantage but I am feeling like making an upgrade and looking for justification.
I definitely can't keep my s/m at that pace. I'd need to get up to like 150.
Lol. Heh.
New Darts PR during warmup! So close to perfection!
Decided to put myself through hell and go for another crack at a 7 minute 2k. Almost got there right before the Rona came when I was at 7:15. Lost a lot of motivation when the gym shut down. Got a C2 at home in January 2021 but had a hard time getting back to where I was combined with a couple dumb injuries. But I've been going hard on fitness for the last year and think I'm ready to punish myself. Not getting any younger. Lol https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...d81890f9b0.jpg

Sub 7 is no joke, that would be sweet. 1:45 for 500m. I’ve been getting back rowing in my single….need to melt off some lbs. I see a concept2 in my future at the house.
I was reading the other day that A 19 yr old from Idaho…6’9” or something like that goes 5:48. Just got second in the single at under 23 world championships. I think he has the ability to win the open single in the near future.
Yeah! 6'9" and a young buck! Seems like a bright future. A friend of mine who now has a head full of grey hair and eats a lot of hamburgers told me about how he used to pull six minute 2ks when he was 19 while on the team at Columbia University.
I just did my first 2k on months to see where I'm at with the goal of a 7:30 and got 7:25 without hitting my max HR or feeling like I wanted to puke at the end. So pleased to have that as a decent starting point for my latest attempt.
FWIW, I've been rowing with the damper mostly below 5 because that is what everyone seems to say. But I just upped it to 6 and it felt niiiiccccee. Maybe it's time for another drag factor test.

Thought I would post this here.
My buddy is pretty good at rowing. I will have to ask him what his ERG times were. Crew was a huge sport in my HS, so I know quite a few really good rowers, but Mike was a beast.

For damper setting….it depends. It has to be a combination where you can keep stroke rate up but not too high and also where it isn’t too hard to pull. I think I used a lot of 3-4 settings in college when I was spinning 6 minute 2ks. A lot of people think setting the damper open means working harder….not the case. Think of biking up a hill in 22nd gear. Compromise of rpm’s and resistance. Same thing on erg. Kind of like biking I think most people at 80-100 rpm’s. I think when rowing a 2k I was high 20s to low 30s stroke rate. I’d have to watch a crash B’s video to see what elites are doing these days.
Just did a 2k before lunch at the office. I wasn't about to puke at the end, but i feel like I worked pretty hard.
Also bought a heart rate monitor. Had not played with one of those before.
Anyway, 7:31. Averaged 27spm, and a steadily rising heart rate. I used 6 on the damper setting.

Bump cause we should be rowing.
3k in 8:10 today. First solid effort since hurting my ribs a couple weeks ago.Attachment 433742
I've been getting back on the rower about once a week. Try to get in about 7k in a half hour or so.
That's more like it...
