Jesus. Vibes to all those involved
Absolute nightmare scenario. Hope everyone is ok.
that's a big probe line
all the best to all involved
Holy shit.
this quote sounds hard to believe
is it a big terrain trap?
According to Taos News photographer Morgan Timms, who was at the scene of the accident, the snow from the avalanche is so deep that the probes, which are as long as 30 feet, would not reach the bottom of the snowpack.
The debris pile doesn't look 30'.... but yeah, where 4 unloads and you traverse over towards Hunzi is a nice bit of terrain trap.
Taken right off the top of a chair that dumps many at the bottom.

We are very pleased to announce that the Kachina Peak Lift is now open for business! Our Patrol team and lift ops/maintenance did a phenomenal job getting Kachina ready so when you see them out on the mountain, make sure to give them a . The lift will run from 10am-2:45pm.
Can an OEC intubate?
Man, hoping for the best to all involved.

dam, bad news. never been to Taos, always been on the list to ski a few NM areas.
Most probes for emergency caches are 12', usually 9/16" EMT (Electrical Conduit).
Its been a while but the patrollers I met from TAOS said they had a pretty good number EMT-Ps on staff.
Worst nightmare.
Sending positive vibes.
that's horrible Taos is a serious mountain to patrol. .My condolences to everyone involved in this. sounds like only 2 caught terrible but seems like it could of been much worse.
Is that the same as a "king tube"?
Does Taos have a boot packing program like Highlands?
Highlands literally had people out there in October, packing the layers as they fell.
Damn, vibes to all of our south western brethren/sisters.
MS, check your Facespace messages.
Question for the 'trollers here - the one time I watched a mock avy scenario put on by a ski patrol, the very first thing they did was a beacon search. I would assume that's pretty standard practice at most places, right? Beacon search, dogs when they arrive, then probe lines?
And Reccos if the area has them. Start with beacons because that’s what most trollers are carrying and are easiest to get on scene. Reccos can be pretty easy to respond with, compared to probe lines. Dogs can be pretty quick too. Taos has avy dogs, but they seem to hang out at the patrol shack at the top of Lifts 2 and 7a, which is a fair distance from Kachina Peak. I might be wrong about that, but that’s where I usually see them.

Sounds like one of them didn't make it, Condolences to the families and the rescuers.
Scene safety, question witnesses, beacon search, probe clues, dogs, then the other stuff. Pretty much in that order.
Really scary and sad for the community...[emoji52]
