We were driving in poor cell service and I think we had two bars for about a minute. Incredibly we got 25seconds of lead-up, the 10 seconds of the race, and 25 seconds of follow up, just enough to hear it actually wasn’t a tie. Then poof.

Actually I just watched the end of the race on demand, and it sure looked to me like the other three riders just decided to let her go and jockey around till they got close to sprint it out for silver and bronze. I guess Faulkner isn't a completely unknown quantity, but it seemed strange none of them tried to stay with her when she first took off. Faulkner wasn't even supposed to be in the race - why would they bail on the gold like that?
I thought that was weird too and the gap didn’t seem big enough that they couldn’t have closed it at any time if they worked together
Yeah wtf. Seemed lame.
Awesome win though.
They didn't follow Faulkner because they couldn't.

That's how I saw it, none of them had the gas in the tank
This made my day:

High jump Gold for Ukraine.
Streaming full event is an outstanding experience.
I think the woman who had ridden with her to catch the lead pair (was it Vos?) knew she couldn't keep up, and without her jumping into a chase the other two didn't immediately do so, and Faulkner was gone so quickly.
This.
Vos and Vas burned a lot of matches trying to stay away from Kopeky (and Faulkner). And you may have noticed when Faulkner & Kopecky bridged up, that every time Faulkner took a pull, the gap got smaller; every time Kopecky pulled, the gap increased. That tells you how much each had in the tank.
And when they bridged up, Vos & Vas expected them to take a breather and fight it out in a field sprint. Faulkner had other plans.
Damn fine race for someone who wasn’t originally picked to compete…
I need to go back and look at when she opened the gap and the time/distance to the finish. Seemed like her gap was never that big and enough time to regroup and chase her down but maybe it was a bigger gap and less time left to close it that I thought there was
Yeah, Faulkner was the strongest of the four and once she had a gap the fight was for silver and bronze. None of those 3 was going to put in a big effort to bring her back just to get smoked in the sprint.
Brilliant move to attack when they caught leaders and not try her luck in sprint. She metered out her effort to have enough left for the attack, as well as timing the catch close enough to the finish so she could hold that power to the end.

holy shit, they weren't even in view when she hit the finish line!
Track has been $$$. Fisher taking bronze in the 10,000m, CROUSER and Kovaks going Gold-Silver for the 3rd time. Bol storming her anchor leg in 47.9 for the mixed 4x4, Alfred blitzing the W100 and now Lyles rising to the occasion. So much good stuff. Mens 1500m
Final will be all time

Scottie Scheffler's back 9 to post a 62 and win gold was absolutely incredible. Rahm, Fleetwood, Schauffele, Rory and Matsuyama were all leading him and throwing darts which makes it even more incredible.
That women’s cycling finish was the best performance of the day. Just a no name grinder who wasn’t supposed to be on the podium who showed up the world’s best
men's tennis final was superb. incredibly high level of tennis. one of the best matches I've seen
I don't watch much golf and don't have the Golf Channel, but this is one time I wish that this had been shown at least the last few holes on NBC or USA. That's got to be a tough pill for Rahm to swallow. Kudos to Scottie for the birdie machine on the back nine.
Finke in the 1500 and US in the women's medley relay setting WR's on the last day and winning the gold medal count over the Aussies.
Full replay of the golf on Peacock if you can get to that.
Sport climbing started today. I thought Alex Honnold was going to be commentating, but he's not on the speed climbing or bouldering event replays on Peacock. Anyone know what's up with that?

Man the US beach volleyball women just completed one of the bigger choke jobs I've seen in awhile.
Up 14-9 in the first set but they blew the lead and lost the set, and then in the must-win second set, were tied 18-all, but lost again. Eliminated from medal contention :nonono2:
