Last coho of the season. Saltwater took a chunk out of the boat trailer which also then destroyed the hull haul out ring. Got some work to do before we move north next month.

Breaching humpback out there. Did this over and over again, right next to that boat.

Despite really low water levels, cooler water temps and fish can still be found in eastern CT

Stalking browns in NZ.
I am totally new to fly fishing and fish stalking and NZ rivers. I caught a few 0.5lb browns spinning across shallow tannin water flowing over rock. Zero on the fly - a lot to learn. I was not really into the whole stalking thing. Then after a few days started to get the idea, moving up river and targeting places fish would feed. But still not really feeling the vibe. Didn't really feel like I was fishing. Then I came up behind what looked like a 2.5lb dude just picking up nymphs in a downstream protected pocket. Suddenly was all pretty exciting, and I was crawling up behind him and casting from my knees. He swerved out to look at my nymph, and a few casts later I spooked him. Then all I wanted to do was stalk more of them! I felt the vibe.
I doubt I'll catch anything on a fly until I go out with someone who knows what they are doing. It is amazing the difference in skill and catch rate.
I found some beautiful road side water, and hiked into an incredible river. An amazingly pretty walk for several miles of rapids and pools. It is great what you can find when you get out a map and drive down country roads.

Pickup the "kiwimaps / Pathfinder" Complete Drivers Atlas from a gas station.
100% worth it
i used to worries more about catchin
tills i reaized it was a lifelong journey of an addiction i caught
don't gets me wrong the catchin is the actualization or sum total of doing shit right and failing aint always fun
but the prep, the location, the choice of weapons, the stalk, the cast ,presentation, the eat, the set, the hookup, the line control, the fight and everything else brings me about as much pleasure these days as does watching others do it right.
try n enjoy the journey and learning and fuckups as much as the final fulfillment of the act.
thats some serious coolwater

Just finished the annual FL trip with my dad and brother. The old man landed a 22# redfish. His biggest fish ever, not bad at 75.

Hallowed weenies weekend was all time. The Fonts gave up the goods like usual. Only regret was buying the Friday license thinking Sunday would be rain. Ended up drinking Friday and Sunday dawned beautiful. Thought about on lining a license but the weekend of dirty dishes and trailer disarray was calling me.
Two Slate laps while moseying made for a fantastic way to end the camping season.

Beautiful weather this weekend, felt like mid October should. Striper bite is finally starting to heat around these parts. Fish are still a bit north, hopefully they move in within the next 2 weeks or so. There's tons of bait in the water, just waiting for this powder keg to go off.
Got my dad back on the fly, it's a bit tough to find productive spots on the fly off land in mid NJ. We were pretty spoiled when we used to vacation up at the Cape years and years ago.
This spot definitely didn't feel like dirty Jerz.

Roll casts into the wind were a bit tricky, but the rip is only a couple feet off the bank.

We hammered schoolie stripers and the occasional shad the night before, every other cast for about an hour at dusk. No time for pictures! But striper thumb is always a good reminder.
