Friend of a friend...rip.
Definatly a somber mood tonight. Didn't know John, but it really hit home. As GoNads said, "it could have been any of us."
Tommorows we hike up The Headwall for a memorial run. That run will be filled with emotions. Hopefully John will be looking down on us, smiling.
RIP John Nicoletta; much respect. A fallen soldier who went out with his boots on...

today was the worst thing I have ever seen live. It easily could have been any of the competitors, more than one had a hard time in the same section he bailed in. My deepest condolances go out to all the Aspen crew and anyone close to John. I am sure he was an awesome guy, everyone I have met on this tour is, today was heavy day for the ski community. We will all be shredding turns for him tomorrow.
RIP John...I'm very sad tonight. When Nadia says "this could have been any of us"...it really rings home. Condolences to all who knew him....I'm very sorry.

Sorry to hear about such a tragic happening. I offer my condolences to all friends and family of John.
fuck!
i am so glad i had to go to work after stoeckline's run. vibes to everyone involved.
whenever i think of this happening i think of this song. whenever i hear this song i think of this happening. i hope it's played it for me a long time from now. it's the best version i could find.
John was such a nice young man and an amazing skier. I take some comfort in thinking that he is in a magnificent place right now but this is so tough for all of us.
so sad to hear this, his family and friends and all of you guys there still competing are in my prayers. be careful out there everyone
:eek:Holy fuck!!! Like everyone else I'm sick to hear it turned out so bad, oh my fucking god that sucks.
this is rough.
Here in Burlington a room full of skiers and snowboarders were watching the feed on the TV. We had been waiting for our friend, going 50th to throw down. When other competitors crashed we all did the collective, "OW". But when John crashed no one said a word. Everyone is kind of tweaked out, we watched a man die.
Rest in peace John. Burlington had one for you last night
Too many deaths this season.
RIP
So sad, RIP
++++vibes++++ to the family
Damn. Nicoletta was a very precise skier. This is so hard to even believe, let alone process. I only knew John from brief encounters, and a couple of runs taken together, and this hits so hard for me. I can only imagine what you guys in Aspen and those competing in AK are feeling. I am so sorry for this loss that we are all experiencing right now. RIP.
Everyone up in AK - throw it down for John. Check in with yourself, make sure your choices are good ones, and ski the fucking shit out of your lines. Kick ass and get home to your loved ones.
I'm not even sure what to say. RIP John, you'll be missed.
wow. may his family and friends find peace in the fact that he was doing what he loved in a beautiful place... rest in peace john nicoletta... so tragic, but it truly seems like you've touched lives everywhere and for that, good on ya... you lived a good one...
Any word on what is happening today? The press release said the comp would continue, but so far haven't seen anything.
i assume theyre holding the comp. I seriously doubt well see live coverage for a while. Supposedly the competitors got a memorial run for John first thing this morning
RIP.
My prayers, thoughts and condolences are with your family, friends, competetors still up in AK and your rescuers.
seems as though they are trying to get it going now.
as mentioned above, the athletes wanted to continue with the comp today. we will run the rest of the men and women, and it will be run on the same venue. not sure about a finals/superfinals, but it could very well end today with only one run completed. the live show WILL be happening. probably go live in about 10 minutes. 12 pm AKDT
Fitting memorial--all the aspenites taking a run together right now on the live feed.
Tragic - my heart felt heavy just reading this :(
Thoughts and Condolences to family & friends, those in AK and those back in Aspen.
buzzzzzzzzzzzzer
damn shame he didn't make it and am glad i didn't see that happen. that cat that hiked back out after missing his line was the big winner of the day.
Unbelievably sad. I can't even believe it. Skied some runs with John and watched him charge into everything in perfect control. Was so psyched when he broke out in telluride and ripped it. Loving life at the bar afterwards. Super humble kid.
I skied some sweet pow for John today, cause honestly, I don't know what else to do. This hits too hard. Only the good.....
RIP John. Hopefully you're shredding pow so light we could only dream.
