I recently got a pair of atomic powder plus skis, still in an very good state. Unfortunatley there are some ess. var 512 bindings mounted. I want to mount another binding but I can't figure out how to "normaly" remove the ess binding.
where to start? which button/ screw has to go first?

AFD is held on with a small tab on the side (under the white part of the AFD?), open the tab and slide the AFD towards the bindings heel. Then open the screw(s) that hold the center rail in place. Toe should slide off the front, heel off the back, and you should be able to see the screws that hold the whole thing to the ski.
Also the ESS might be mounted asymmetrically on the PP, some of the first gen where done that way. Also this mounting jig was just stamped onto the skis topsheet. Not that any of that really matters....

Here a picture to complete MtLions description. I have no picture of the old Ess:s, but anyway. Somewhere close to where the arrow is pointing there´s a plastic clip. Carefully flex that open and proceed as MtL described.
