Ski Boxes

ok, im in a postion to get an amazing deal on a new ski rack set up. Mind you i got a toyota corrolla now, but will have a new big ass 4x4 with in a year.

Option 1, get 1 large packsport box $500.00
option 2 get 2 medium packsport boxes for side by side mounting $800.00
Option 3, get 1 large 2800 Thule box, 250.00
option 4 get two of the 1800 thule boxes $400.00

I dont mind spending more ot get hte packsports, but are they really the best box out there?

\Note I ski 150 days a year and ussually have 5-6 pairs of skis with me, plus more skis / boards for who ever rides with me, so i need to haul a shit load of gear.

I haven't played with the packasport or the Thule stuff, but the new Yakima Blacktop Pro and the Platinum series are really well designed, well made, and they seemt to be priced better than the packasport stuff. Are you looking to mount directly to your factory rack or are you going to put an after market rack on there?

im getting the full thule aftermarket deal, bike attachments, boat shit, whatever, i just need to decide on the box options

I'd go with two smaller boxes for versatility. You could always yank one off if you needed to stack kayaks or haul a mtb.

although are you going to have a tailgate? if so, and you got one of the really wide ones that opens from the back, it would be really nice to stand on the tailgate and get all in there...although thule may not make a rear opening one...
