blu ray comparison

anyone know if a PS3 is gonna be as good as a samsung bd-p1400 ?
Wifey brought home the samsung last night from circuit city and I was planning on going PS3 cuz I likes them video games, too.

Haven't even hooked it up yet since she didn't get the HDMI cable and it only comes with rca cables. Might try component cables just for a look.

my buddy just sold a 60g PS3 with Linux loaded and 6 good games for $430 on eBay. Kinda wish I'd grabbed it
Blu Ray looks pretty sick in the store. Can't wait to rock it on the 55" plasma.

Umm, no. It'll be vhs vs. betamax all over again. Whatever the porn industry decides to use will win.

I think bluray has already won the battle. I see blu ray everywhere now. Lots of titles are coming out on it. I do see HD-DVD, but not nearly as often. I think Sony's strategy was to get it out first, and while they may lose the battle on initial costs etc, they will will the war.

Edit: I have a ps3 and play blu rays on it....IT ROCKS!

Far from over. The battle is just starting to get ugly. Here's today's example:

Disney CEO Robert Iger said Tuesday that his company has not taken any money from the Blu-ray high-definition video camp to continue releasing its movies in Blu-ray exclusively. Iger's comments came at an investors' conference in New York where News Corp's Rupert Murdoch charged earlier in the day that Viacom's Paramount unit had received $150 million to drop Blu-ray and go with HD DVD exclusively. "We haven't taken any money because we think it's far and away the best business. ... I think it's a foregone conclusion about which [format] will win," Iger said. Still later in the day Time Warner CEO Richard Parsons said that Warner Home Video will continue releasing films in both formats. "Our objective is not to take sides on the format but to do what we need to do to get maximum penetration."

I hooked it up with the crappy stock rca cables last night and it looked like a regular dvd, used the hdmi cable from the cable box and it was much better.
Watched about 15 minutes of "Click" and went back to watching the red sox blow another game (in HD) .....underwhelmed...I want a PS3 instead.

If HD-DVD wins it will be like the Betamax winning the battle. Less storage = lower quality, fewer extras and another expensive update much sooner down the line.

Oh well. I'm not buying either anytime soon either way. No point w/out a $2000 HDTV.
