Did a search and didn't find anything about this time of the year... Heading out for a week with the inlaws the 5th of oct. Any beta or suggestions... Mountainbike(or road) rentals and rides, hikes, beer, food, hell even museums or shops to hit with the parents?
there are a ton of bike rental places all over the notch area. several on 108. Hiking is great, just drive past stowe resort into the notch, you can hike either side to the chin of mansfield or to sterling pond on the smuggs side.
For entertainment, go to burlington. We have lots of beer and food on church st
Suck the cock of an AIG boss and maybe you'll get a free lift pass for Stowe.
Check out The Shed on 108 for burgers and home-brewed beer, if that's your thing. Don't know about the biking, but Mansfied (the mtn stowe is on), Camel's hump, and Mt. Hunger are all good hikes with open summits. A drive through Smugglers Notch (just stay on 108 past stowe resort) is not bad either.
The parents will like walking around Stowe, lot of shops and a very small ski museum.
And like skiingsamurai said, go to Burlington if you get bored with Stowe (which is probably pretty easy this time of year).
You should be able to do all of this very easily in a week. Have fun mang!
Beer: The Alchemist in Waterbury.
Bike:iRIDE, accross from the Bagle on Rt 108. (i'd be happy to show you the trails, they are very sweet, but not easy to find/link, except for the stuff imediately behind the shop.
Hikes:Hike the hellbrook trail on the mansfield side of the notch, up past the Long trail, or go to the top of the notch and hike sterling pond on the smuggs side.
Shops: No problem finding those. B sure to check out Laughing Moon for kind chocolate treats, and the Blue Moon for Kind dinner treats. (I cook there)
(both hikes are strenuous. The Long trail up Mansfield is much more mellow.)
Might even B some snow up high by then.)
Any hiking anywhere that week should be beautiful. I recommend the Chin on Mansfield if you haven't ever done it before. Dress warm.
Agree with previous posts re: the Shed for beer and burgers! Rusty nail ain't bad either.
Pizza? my girlfriend and I always eat at Pie in the Sky, which has wood-fired pizza.
Another good hike to the north is Belvidere Mtn in Eden (bout 25 mins north on 100). There is a really cool firetower at the top. Pretty strenous, but worth it hike.
Alchemist beer KILLS the shed, as does the food. KILLS. Great MTBing in waterbury too!

Picasso is the spot for pizza. Even though the new building may not seem like it, it's super good hippie pizza that is about as good as it gets. Pie in the Sky is good, but after skiing or hiking at Stowe nothing is better than a few slices of eggplant and chicken pie from there. Damn just got hungry.Quote:

The Stowe locals are an absurdly terratorial bunch :) so you're not likely to get much beta from those who know the most.
I'd tell you some good mountain biking but honestly the trails are so hidden/hard to get to that it would be really frickin difficult for me to even describe how to get to em, and the chances of you finding em with my directions are bleak.
A great hike is to the top of the Pinnacle east of town. Its a short day hike, but great views at the top. Also, the hikes on Mansfield mentioned above are great.
Check out Moss Glen Falls a few miles north of town, off of 100.
If you have climbing shoes, there's some great bouldering at the top of the notch (couple miles west of the ski area).

go there, its the best pizza ive had in this state, its only competition is american flatbread
Three Tomatoes on Church Street makes some damn good pies, too.
Hunger Mountain is a great hike.
Manhattans on main st, all you can eat on sun/wed, now that is a meal
