An oxymoronic event: Mammoth Mini

I just bought my Mammoth pass, so it's time to head up there for the annual Mammoth May Mini. I'm thinking that the second weekend in May (May 8-9) is the perfect time to go. There will still be a ton of snow on the mountain (assuming it actually snows in April, unlike March), the weather should be nice (who knows we might luck out and get another powder day), and it shouldn't be too crowded (the first weekend in May is always a mess).

Last year we managed to score a sweet two bedroom condo for about $130 a night, this left each of us paying approximately nothing for lodging (OK, $15 a night, but we still spent less on lodging than on beer). I'm more than willing to find a condo this year too, but I need some sort of idea of how many people are going to show up, so let me know if you're interested, and how likely it is that you'll actually show up. I just called up, and the condo we rented last year is going for $110/night, so it's still a cheap place. It technically sleeps 7 (there are actually 5 seperate beds), but you could probably put up to 10 in there without any problems, so it seems to be about the right size.

Once I book this thing, I'll be on the hook for 100% of the rate, so I need some sort of serious confirmation from at least 3 other people that they really will be coming before I can book it (at that point it's down to $27.50/night). So, if you are 100% sure you're able to make it, send me an email at: hotmail@matt_allen_g.com (note the back asswards email).

If anyone has a better suggestion (like say their boss has a 6 bedroom palace that they can use for the weekend) let me know.

A Mammoth mini would be cool. So would a mini Mammoth. You could walk it around on a leash like a dog.

I would be concerned about the glue's ability to hold, you would need some pretty elastic glue for something like that. Also, I imagine any industrial strength glue would do wonders for the dog's skin. I would recomend tying the tusks around the dog, or maybe duck tape? Now, as for the type of dog, a St. Bernard would be my sugestion, but other breeds could also be considered.

Sort of back on track, but not really....

The Mammoth mascot is "Wooly the Mammoth", and he is often seen skiing and snowboarding around the resort. Apparently a few seasons ago, Wooly ate shit on Stump Alley (a long wide groomer with a pretty decent pitch, and LOTS of people), and his head popped off. The head continued down to the bottom, and a headless Wooly had to ski down to recover it.

Iceman's on the right trail, except antlers and tusk's are attatched at different parts of the head. Tusks are more diffucult because they hang from the bottom of the mouth, whearas antlers simply rest on top of the head. Some of what Dr. Suess described may work, but a sturdier strap system should be devised for dog tusks. I like edg's idea for a headgear type of thing. Lets go in that direction.

no, but i'd like to know why the pass costs more this year. am i paying for all the unrented stores in the village?

There are a lot of unrented stores down there. I think they're selling less passes this year. The $25 increase might be to make up for the passes they aren't selling. Still, it's a good deal.

I'm down for a couple of Mammoth Minis. Tioga Pass probably won't be open by early May, so AntiSoCal might have to plan another one in June.

Anyone heading up this month?

I'll be down, but I'm not buying a pass for next year, seeing as I only used my Mammy pass a grand total of 3 days (opening weekend, day after New Years).....oh wait, that doesn't include the 10-12 days from April-June last year :D

Looks like Apruary again. Could we get a repeat of last year's 90" (pretty please?)

Pass went up this year because they calculate the average number of days each person skis - it used to be 6 and the first pass price reflected that. Now it's 8 (probably those passes) so it's gone up. I know a lot of people who didn't renew this year, yet this is Day One after renewal period and 77% are sold.

I'll be at the mini - keep me posted here or in PM.

Am skipping this weekend, I have a sore throat (probably due to 6 weekends in a row). Will be there on the 7th-11th. Anyone else?

Nahh, It'll be open from the east side for Memorial day if not before (unless we get a lot more snow, long before).

I'll be spending a fair amount of time down that way. Hoping for a full week on the EastSide in May.

the other day I'm talking to my little brother and he's thinking of heading over there this year and tells me that the he's gunning to be the wooly mammoth of season 2004-05.
Dunno if he's told mum yet I'm sure she'll be proud:D
