just say no
focus your research around Yakutat......and hopefully you are a steelhead fisherman, too.
Fuel TV just ran a show called "Taming Alaska". They surfed and heli skied on the same trip. They rattled off a few breaks on the show, but I don't remember any of the names .
Since this a critical bunch I'll admit to not being a surfer. However Yakutat I believe is a spring thing. The beach is accessible right from town. Camp right on the beach. We have some surfing in Cordova but takes boat or plane to reach. Best in spring and fall but available all year long. Here is a link to a few photos.

Went on a family vacation there a few weeks ago the place was incredible. Unfortunately the surf was small but my kids had a great time boogie boarding. There is a Forest Service cabin located there to rent. We spent 5 nights there. Miles of beach with great beachcombing. Had the place to ourselves except the surf which we shared with schools of humpies and the porposises and sea lions that came to eat them. Kodiak also has road accessible surf.
Fall is best and winter is next, prime season is coming up. Alaska has more coastline than the rest of the US. Most of it is hard to reach unless you have access to a plane, a boat and cash for fuel. But if you do you will be stoked beyond belief. Yakutat can be good ,remember there is no road access so bring 500 to 8oo bucks to get there. Saw a 2 guys a few years back convinced they were going to drive there after reading Outside magazine. Kodiak has some road accessible surf, and the aforementioned spot has some interesting if somewhat mushy waves. There are plenty of other spots but they will require a little more effort on your part( ie I'm not talking) , you know... exploration, failure, hooking up with the right people at the right time. I'm assuming if you want to come to Alaska you want some adventure.
I'll point you in the right direction once you get here.
$500-$800 to go surfing in Alaska? People pay that?
They pay that much a day to sit around the Best Western in Valdez and watch cable TV.
sbc surf (canada's surf magazine) just ran a big article about a place up there.
