So i was thinking of buying a longboard sometime soon. I will mostly surf it in Maine. I used to have a 9'2'' but didnt noseride. I was looking for something about the same size that can handle the occasional big waves but can also noseride. And then Fins to. im way out of my element on fins. Im 6'2'' and 185

however when i look at a longboard i can tell right away if it will be a good board for noseriding. those are more like your classic longboard shapes, decent rocker and a concave nose. wider than normal and maybe a bit more rounded or snubby nose than some longboards. if you are looking to ride in the classic longboard style i would ride single-fin. however if you get a 3 fin you can always run it without the two side fins, for that classic feel. if you want a log that catches waves then the longer the better -like over 9ft. If you want to really turn it in some bigger east coast surf, then go with a shorter length. i have an 8'6" that is a three fin board but it is an amazing noserider, when I want it to be, and a good high performance board when i need it. that is my all around longboard, but for classic stylin at places like malibu or other such long point waves, i like a longer classic board (on smaller days anyway). for big surf, get yourself a shortboard!
i think a lot of noseriding also comes from the rider and not always the board. yes some boards dont lend themseves to the art, but most good longboards will allow the rider some nose time.

Yea, best bet is see your local shaper, but this guy wanted a board. The performer works well from waist to a tad overhead. Maybe a more traditional shape would be better for waves under waist, but who cares, thats a big enough range for a longboarder in ME. Modern longboards are the way to go.
I work in a shop. The only longboard we carry under $750 is a Roberts for $650. Our C.I. Performer II is either $800 or $850. And no, we aren't overpriced.Quote:

Exactly and they fucking bullshit that they aren't made in China and Thailand. If I remember right, after Clark went out of business they said that only the blanks were being made in China and that they shipped the blanks to Cali to be shapped. :rolleyes: If you can, get something that is actually made in the U.S. or even better locally.Quote:

ive got good boards about a couple hun under the shop prices.
My buddy just bought a Walden Magic Model in that length and he has been killing it (for him) the last few times we have had any surf. It isn't a Surftech, but some sort of epoxy board (heavier than a surftech). Nice nose and tail rocker for some late take offs, should work well in bigger surf for those that enjoy that length. Not really the best nose rider with the rocker, but will turn way better than a nose rider (tough to get both hang time and good turns from one board). You should try and check one out if still needed.

I don't know if anyone is still interested in this thread, but I'm looking for a long board to round out the quiver as well. I was lurking around the bay area and checked out a Scott Anderson Josh Farberow model board that looked pretty sweet. It was pretty similar to a point blank noseglider that is pretty much the one I was ready to throw down for. They seem a little less traditional and fatter in the nose, any comments?
I still suck at surfing so it probably doesn't really matter anyway. I'll be in Baja for the next month-6 weeks to give it a good break in, FKNA so stoked!
Go to a local shop ... I'm sure there's quite a few in your area. Tell the owner your abilities and what you are looking for and I guarantee he'll help you a lot better than any of us.
