Looks like a fun lineup except for Yonder Mountain Jam Band, they have become more of a Wide Spread Panic than a bluegrass band. I was at Rockygrass last weekend and saw the DGBX and thought they were fun and quite good.

Damn it. The inlaws are in town that weekend = no road trip....

At no time have YMSB ever made any claim to fit into any specific genre of music. Definitely not for the bluegrass purist, but they play their asses off and throw a pretty good party in the process.

What is the difference between the 'experience' and the Quintet?

I am guessing he will be playing bluegrass instead of what the quintet plays.

Quintet: DG w/guitar, flute, drums, bass.
Bluegrass Experience: DG w/banjo-guitar, guitar, fiddle, bass.

Just a guess....Experience will be more bluegrass based, Quintet more fusiony. Music will be great both days, Saturday's finale, with Sam Bush jammin with DG and whoever else, at the 20th anniversary, will be a party to remember, or not be able to...:D

The folks at Vootie really put together a solid line up this year! And...it's actually Bluegrass & acoustic music instead of "jam" bands, DG, and Sam Bush.

You may be right but they are much different now from what they were like when they started. I personally like a more pure bluegrass sound and not 10 minute drag on jams that seem to characterize their music these days. To me it sounds like they have tried to capitalize on the success of the WSPs and String Cheese Incidents of the world. I saw them 7 years ago at the Gothic and thought it was great however I saw them at Rockygrass last year and was pretty disappointed. It's allright though, they will survive, they have tons of psuedo hippies to attend their shows. I will stick with bands like the Infamous Stringdusters, Bluehighway, and Ricky Skaggs.

Of course they're not the same. They've been around ten years. Bands grow and progress. I, for one, think they've done a damn good job of it. I can sit and listen to Elevation over and over again, start to finish - or be just as happy listening to a live show from a month ago. I honestly don't think they've tried to capitalize on anyone else's success. Are there some "fence jumpers" from the Panic crowd? Of course. But not all Yonder fans even like Panic or SCI, (I don't like either one of them) I really think that as far as musicality goes, though - they are completely in a class by themselves. Nobody else is doing what these guys have pioneered. (Or at least not doing it as well.) I also really think it has to do with their marketing and where they have opportunistically chosen to position themselves within the music market (festivals.) If an easy to listen to, talented band is not growing in numbers and a following, it’s probably more of an issue with marketing than anything else. I think it’s that Simple. These bands are growing at their own pace, and at their own rate, and will pick up followers who enjoy their music, not necessarily compounding on the success of someone else's compositions. For the other bands that are not growing, and those who won't spread their music abroad the ‘masses’– it's hardly due to Panic's lack of presence. I dunno, agree to disagee? To me it's about the music, not the fans. :confused:

I'm pulling the trigger after work today for a 3-day ticket. Seeing how Saturday is $60, might as well go for the full meal deal. When I talked to Targhee activities desk yesterday, they stated they expect the festival tickets to sell out this year. While that may be optimistic bull, judging by how fast the camping tix sold out, they just might be right.

I hope they sell out! Targhee Fest seemed a bit low on attendance. It would be nice to see the venue "full".

On a related note....Dr. John is coming to the Moose. 8/19 I think.

Just got the call....scored a spot volunteering in the beer tent. Sure, it's Friday and Sunday, 6 and 3:30 to close, but that leaves alllll Saturday to kick back and enjoy! Free ticket, woot!

Targhee is so much fun. I'm bummed I'll miss it this year but hopefully I'll be back. I remember walking into a condo at 2am and seeing Darol Anger jam with some of the Waybacks and possibly the Sibley's (Jackson Mags should know them). What a great time. I had dragged my fiddle along but definately felt a little intimidated stepping into that crowd.
