Heading there tomorrow for 10 days. Can I get away with a cheapo rental or do I need 4wheel? In CA if it snows a millimeter they make one put on chains which SUCKS! Only driven around Roger's Pass areas once in the summer. I know a bunch of the contingent live/traveled there, do I need to sack up for the SUV?
On an alternative front, what's a good Canada weather website for the Nelson, Golden, Revelstoke areas. Want to see what is in store for me.
Where are you renting you car? If you rent in BC they generally have good all season (3 season) tires. They will be good enough to get you around. If you hit snow be aware that you may not have ripper gripper tires under you. I have never in my 20 years driving in BC been forced to chain up. Good thing too because I have never ownd any. Don't bother with the SUV. A front wheel drive corolla will get you there no worries.
As for weather I don't know. Avalanche.ca has avalanche conditions and links to current satelite photos, and predicted systems.

In store for you now is a few days of recently depsited snow. Spring squalls have depsited more in some places than others. Some good skiing in the b/c right now. You got touring gear?
