Markleeville Death Ride: 7/14/07

The 2007 Death Ride has come and gone again, and it never fails to impress (read "PUNISH" :D ). It was a hot one this Saturday, making for good challenge, which took down some strong riders.

The stats on the ride are: approx 130 miles and 16,000 feet of climbing (made up of 5 big climbs: West Monitor, East Monitor, East Ebbetts, West Ebbetts, and Carson Pass. 3000 bicyclist rode it. Took me 10:40 ride time (about 13 car to car).

Is that the same ride Mr Shoelaces did?

Pretty fargin' spectacular setting to do a long road haul. With the right amount of doobage and an .mp3 player, I can see doing that ride's more scenic sections. Not sure about the 16,000 feet of climbing, though.

cool report G. I always forget to take a camera with me on these things. Looks like you started about 45 minutes to an hour ahead of me. As I was descending the backside of Monitor, you must have been somewhere in the horde or people climbing up. How was it being in the main pack of riders? I generally like starting a little later as you don't have as many JONGS around you on the descents. (but then it's kind of scary dodging all the human missles coming down the front side of Ebbets when you're climbing up!)
