Part Time Job Ideas?
Hoping the collective will have some solid advice for me here.
I work full time during the day but since I just started in a new career the pay is pretty low right now. I also deliver pizzas in the evenings to help make ends meet and generate some surplus cash so that I can actually afford to have fun.
The problem is, the pizza place I'm working for right now is really slowing down and they've cut me from 4 nights a week to only two and it's been really slow on those two nights lately also. It's pretty much not worth it any more, especially since those two nights are on the weekends and I take a lot of weekends off during the summer.
So, I'm trying to come up with some kind of part-time gig I could do in the evenings after my regular job during the week, to the tune of 2-3 hours a night.
Any solid ideas? Not looking for get rich schemes or anything stupid like that, just would like to generate a couple hundred extra a week if possible.
Whenever I try searching online for this kind of stuff all I come up with is envelope stuffing scams and real estate flipping classes.

Cab Driver? Just a thought.

Do you have any Distribution Centers or Warehouses for large stores? Around here those jobs pay fairly well for low skilled labor.
-
narcotics distribution
do it only when you want or when you need money
it pays well
or sell a kidney
seriously: carwash and landscaping are your 2 most common PT manual labor jobs

The bartender/waiter idea is a possibility if they'll let someone do it who has no experience. I've worked in restaurants, just never as a server or bartender. If they gave me a job as a bartender I'd probably get fired in short order for mixing everyone's drink as a double and helping myself along the way...
Dunno if there's any call for a cab driver who only works 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM M-Th, but I guess it's worth looking into.
Can't mow lawns - highly allergic to grass. Mowing my own lawn is torture.
Hmmm. Drug dealer. Hmmmm....
Thanks! Any further ideas appreciated.
Are there ANY work-from home type deals that aren't scams?

it's green and it smells good.

More realistically you could bar back for a smaller bar a few hours a week during their peak hours. You won't have to work real long hours unless the night is crazy and you can usually show up a few hours after the night starts. Pays well and gives you experience to sling beers later on. That's how I got my start and it was pretty chill.

If you have a college degree you might check into tutoring HS kids. Math and science are going to pay the most and there is a high likely hood of being able to fit it into that time slot.
I had a friend who did that while he was finishing up grad school. His wife taught for the school system and he got hooked up through her. Not sure how you would go about looking into it, but it might be worth a shoot.

Defintely tutoring HS kids. Or work at like a Best Buy or something stocking shelves. Are you good at anything? Could you repair sprinkler systems or work for the town in any way or deliver pizzas at another shop.
Or you could start for the Yankees...theyre usually done by 830 at the latest anyway.

Quit the pizza gig. Buy a pickup truck (bonus if you already have one, which you should) and a small utility trailer. Buy a chainsaw (judging by your screen name I'm assumimg that unless you're a total poser, you probably already have several of these.) Buy a ladder, climbing harness, ascender, a few lengths of rope and a helmet. (You probably already have/ have access to these as well...
Start a small tree trimming business, also charging people a small fee to remove the waste, then split it up back at the house and sell it for firewood. ( = paid x3.) Do this all summer and you'll be skiing 100+ days in the winter.

I used to work for a janitorial company. I had alarm/building keys and could do it at night or early in the AM. They would pay me for 3 hours and I could crank most of the jobs out in 2 or less. I never saw my bosses and could show up buzzed and/or ratty looking and as long as the car dealerships and other places were happy they were happy.
Bartending and waitering are good skills to have. Banquet work is super simple, although it is easy to fall into the food service lifestyle going out after work and after hour partyin till the sun comes up. Not that there is anything
wrong with that at least when your young

3 hours? Man up and really work 2 jobs. Sorry, but most places don't have 3 hour schedules. Work something that's 6-11 or something for 2 nights a week instead of 5:30-8:30 four nights a week...
Work at a liquor store. Easy work and discounts too!

Lots of folk here in the Mountain communities do pretty well with house-sitting and dog-sitting. Get a few under your belt then the word of mouth keeps you going pretty consistently.

stuff envelopes...i see ads all the time in the local paper. $1 per envelope and you can watch TV naked while earning money.

UPS or Fedex hubs are usually looking for people for that time period unloading trucks. It's hard and crazy work, but they'll pay you. I'd check with them.

Dude, you live in Seattle. Coffee shop? The Great Satan, Starbucks, pays pretty well and people seem to like working there. Or deliver Chinese food.

Male stripper, work for tips, and bonuses.

I moonlighted for a parking valet service five years ago in SF. They provided valet services for special events. It wasn't the greatest job in the world, but I enjoyed it. The hours were flexible, the pay was decent (tips), and I liked driving people's $100,000 BMWs. I'm sure Seatle has similar parking valet companies.

Hmm. Lots of good suggestions, thanks.
Just in case anyone cares - I work full time as an apprentice construction/commercial electrician. The jobs start between 6 and 7 am and you have to show up prepared to work and get shit done. Being late, hungover, doing sloppy work because you're too tired, etc. not only can get you or someone around you injured or killed, it will most likely get you fired. On top of that I go to school (part of the apprenticeship) on Fridays and have homework to do that involves a lot of math (which has never been my strong subject), so a job that keeps me up half the night just won't cut it. This is a good career that will pay very well once I work my way up through the ranks for a couple more years. It's a 5 year apprenticeship and I'm only in my 2nd year. By the time I make journeyman the pay rate will be $42.50/hr which I can further supplement with side work. I plan to go on to be a foreman, GF or contractor. I also have an opportunity to learn welding, microprocessor programming, autocad drafting, project management, and fiber optics during the apprenticeship. To be successful at this you've gotta be on the ball so I'm not looking for another career or any second job that will interfere with this one.
The pizza gig is really ideal when there's business. I took home $800 in April working 12 hours a week. That was an exceptional month though, up 'til recently it was usually $600-$700 which isn't exactly peanuts unless you're loaded. It sucks it's not working out any more, I don't know what happened to the business but people just haven't been ordering much the last couple of months.
So, something like waiting tables would be ideal as it pays better than minimum wage, doesn't require long hours and most restaurant's peak hours are 5:30-8:30. I like the janitorial idea too, just hope it pays better than minimum wage.
hutash & Irul, you guys wouldn't be suggesting that if you'd ever seen me naked.
Blood Sweat Steel - No poser but I only own one old, Jonesered chainsaw. The nickname was bestowed upon me by my friends after a drunken firewood cutting session resulted in injury to one of them. Fortunately he only needed 39 stitches.
