Need Heavenly Lodging Recommendations

Hey SLT peeps, I need a couple good lodging options at the Heav for New Years.

Looks like the lady and I will be there for a few nights around then, with a gf of hers and some of her gf's friends.

They are all intermed skiers, and will be there to party as much as they are there to ski. So, they're looking for a place at Heavenly, base area, in village type place, with bars/restaurants/shops around. Doesn't have to be ski-in/ski-out, but does need to be convenient/semi-central. They're looking for the ski village thing. 4-6 people total, so 1-2 bedroom with pullout, or 2-3 bedroom kind of place. Does not need to be fancy at all, I'm sure it'll already be expensive enough.

Help? This is not my area of expertise, when I'm in Tahoe myself I usually sleep on someone's floor.

They just tore down my first recommendation for "redevelopment". "The Block" for party central or maybe try Forest Inn Suites for location. My folks stayed there a while back and it was pretty nice. And yes, nothing will be cheap.

I stayed at Lakeland Village when I was in SLT for a wedding at Heavenly last summer. http://www.lakeland-village.com/reso...LLAGE/OVERVIEW I would recommend it -- you can get a room, a townhouse or a house and the place is about 5 mintues from Heavenly.

You're going to pay a pretty penny, but book now and it won't be too bad since you're likely splitting it up among several folks.

1. Forest Suite Inn - (530) 543-6539 - cheapest place with kitchens / extra roooms and perfect location. Still decent facilities. Very close to gondola and Stateline / village.

2. Marriott Timber Lodge or Grand Residence Club are way expensive, but if you stumble on the threshold you'll land in the gondola line. Perfect-o location!

3. There is a myriad of motel rooms between Hwy 50 and the lake near Stateline. Mostly seedy, some nice. If you go that route, I'd pick Best Western Carriage House Inn or the Big Mountains Lodge off of Cedar Ave for a decent place. Unless you snowboard you won't be allowed in the Block - yo!

Of course there are the casinos...

Ridefree - If you were to take a look at the shit that came down to make room for the redevelopment, you would fully agree that nothing of any value was lost. And McP's is still serving drinks with much easier parking!

I've stayed at Lakeland in a townhome, which is really nice, but the last time I was there, stayed at the Holiday Lodge Motel. It's right across the street from the gondola with a bar in between.

Ditto on the Marriott Timber Lodge. Stayed there for a few days in Feb because a friend has a timeshare there. It was a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom posh suite with nice kitchen, dining table for at least 6, 1 bedroom had a pull-out couch, and the couches in the living room can also be used for sleeping. Not sure how much it would cost, but if you are splitting it with 4-6 people it may not be too bad (and perhaps Squirrel could get you a discount? hint hint ;) ). As others have mentioned, it's in a great location right at the base of the gondola, walking distance to most things, and has a nice heated pool, hot tubs etc...

As for other cheaper accomodations, I'm also a fan of the Tahoe Lakeshore Lodge and Spa but that's about 5-10 minutes down the road from the gondola. All the rooms have a lake view and the rooms on the top (I think 4th floor) are particularly spacious with big lodgepole pine beds. I think they also have a couple suite-like rooms with kitchens. It's not as swanky as the Marriott, but has pool (don't think it's heated though), hot tub, sauna, and spa services. I've stayed there several times and it's always been a good experience, helpful service etc...

They tore down the shop I work at. It aint pretty but neither is Vail- the way they want to make it look.

For eats you got to get to Freshies - best food in Tahoe.

And the Block blows. Sure a good party, but the recommendations are crap

Lakeland is far enough away that your intermediates that want to sleep in late or leave the mountain early will complain about being on their own, even though it is reasonably priced with decent amenities.

- Forest suites for cheap with kitchen
- Marriott if you can spend more
- Casino hotels for super cheap and party focus - you can get adjoining lockoff rooms for some privacy.

Here is a map to the village area with links to info about all the hotels there. I've stayed at Embassy Suites, Harrahs, Marriott Timber Lodge and all are pretty nice. Stardust is older, but still nice and directly across the street from the Gondola.

Closed and bulldozed. everything in that neighborhood has been razed for redevelopment.
