Quick question - dish tv

Has anyone recently done the research to get a new dish system installed? It looks like I could spend a lot of time on the internet looking for a good deal. I've got one big screen tv that I really want an hdtv signal for but there are a couple of other tvs in the house that need regular receivers as well. I must get the Yankees station and a really beefed up sports package that will get all the hockey playoffs and summer tennis and football this fall. And a movie channel, I guess, like HBO.

I'm gonna do some research, but wanted to see who else had looked into it. Obviously looking for the best monthly rate as well as free installation and equipment...

I have a DIRECTV DSS system. Granted my receivers are a few years old, but I'll give you my two pennies nonetheless.

I have two receivers: one services the big TV we generally use for watching television & movies. The other receiver has a remote that works from any room in the house and services several other TV sets - which reduces the fighting amongst our 4 household viewers.

I did all the wiring when I did the rest of our electrical upgrade; wiring may or may not be an obstacle for you. I would assume that wireless systems are available, but can't say definitively.

DIRECTV charges a nominal fee for the second receiver and they have a menu of programming to choose from. I would recommend that you check out DIRECTV's site as they have a three room special going on. I just don't know how special it is.

I've looked into it a bit more and DirectTV is the only dish system I could find that carries YES, the Yankees channel (622). But you have to sign up for their premium service to get that channel. It costs about $90 per month. :eek:

As far as the HDTV thing goes, with DirectTV you can pay an extra $10 per month for a handful of channels. Voom has a lot more hdtv signals, but no yankees, so that's out. I think hdtv is a little young yet so it's not prevalant...

Honestly if you can find it super cheap w/o installation, its WAY easy to install etc.

I've done my 2 room system 3 times now after moving a couple times.

Lining the dish up takes a little while but its really easy.

There are people out there who can tweak your system so it's free. Not completely free since it has to get tweaked every month or two for $20-$30. But then you get everything.
