TR - Folger Peak, June 16, 2007

Location: Folger Peak, Ebbets Pass CA

Weather: heat wave in the valley but pleasant and breezy in the mountains.

Participants: harpo-the-skier, Vets, MJ

Duration: 4hours or so

Vertical: 1000feet or so

Distance: 2-3miles roundtrip

I did a return trip to Folger Peak today. Here is a link to a TR by bcrider from last year.
There wasn't as much snow as last July and not as much snow as two weeks ago (I did a solo recon mission to Hiram Peak/Highland Lakes.) However, it was still a fun corn run. We took a different approach by hiking up the south facing ridge that starts at upper Highland Lake. Once on top we had a shared sushi lunch (thanks to bcrider for the inspiration.) With less snow available, downclimbs were necessary.

Even though this was a low snow year and what snow we did get has been baked off by recent hot weather, there was just enough to left for some fun corn-spraying turns. I'll try here again next year, earlier and hopefully with more snow.

well done! nice to see some June turns being had. you definiely earned them.

Cool to see that there's still some nice skiable snow up there after the poor snow year. Haven't made it up to that area since the middle of February, but hope to head up there for some hiking soon.

I'm a jong still not that familiar with the area, but according to last year's TR and a little research, Folger Peak and Highland lakes look like they're off hwy 4 past Noble and Kinney lakes if coming from BV. I've done both of those hikes, but only done the full Ebbett's pass drive once in the summer and haven't been there yet. Looks like it'll be a good area to check out sometime.

Folger Peak and Highland Lakes are southwest of Noble and Kinney Lakes. The turnoff for the road is west of Ebbett's Pass. Folger Peak and it's ridge of usually snow filled chutes can be seen by looking south from Highway 4.

Nice work. Highland lakes area has awesome sled access skiing when the highway has coverage.

Thanks for the clarification. Was thinking about the map from the wrong perspective last night. Duh! Jong on me. Thinking about it more clearly now, I think I remember where the turn off is.
