boat fitting foot question.

as things are, i somehow ended up in mccall, ID for the summer, and picked up a complete kayak setup real cheap. It's a dagger vertigo, sat in it for the first time today. I don't know anything about this stuff, but after 15 minutes on the lake my feet had fallen asleep. the boat has foot pegs which slide on a track and I assume are stock. all the way back (towards the front of the boat) my toes cram between the pegs and the boat. I see something about foam foot blocks, and my question is does this work better for this sort of thing?...I'm 5'10, 170lbs with size 10 fett so It's not like im a monster or anything. thanks.

Two things.

First, it always takes some getting used to. Your feet and knees and hips might hurt a bit at first, but this should get better with time and stretching.

As for the foot pegs, feel free to pull them out and build up some footblocks with some foam. It's more comfortable and a little safer. I bet the guys at the kayak shop in McCall would help you out if you don't have any boater friends yet.

You should have a good time this summer. Drive south an hour and check out the PBR tour this weekend. Good parties.

As for the Vertigo, at your size, you should be fine in that boat. Foam blocks would be better. I'm bigger than you and it was fine when I had one. Also, make sure your knees are in the right place and your hip pads are comfy-all your pains are connected in a kayak.

Another route to consider is going with the Jackson Happy Feet bags, especially since you're a beginner and aren't as concerned as much with performance as comfort.
