Anyone ever done any fishing from, say, Newport? Or the CT coast, or thereabouts? Can you recommend an outfit for a small (5 or six person) group? I'm supposed to figure this out for a friend's birthday party, and have no clue about it.

Definitely get a boat.
That's all I have.
OK, iceman's not invited anymore...
the MYJOY is a bigger boat and is generally pretty roudy, from what I remember.
edit - leaves out of new london i believe.
I went striper fishing in southern Maine with this guy I think his website is www.maineflyfishing.com not sure though, it was very good we caugt fish and had a private boat at a pretty good price
Random Apiphany (sp?): Only 300 more dollars then I payed for that 6 hours of fishing and I coulda had a day of heli time,, Damn if I had thought about it that way
Sounds like you need to look for the cattle boat with the topless bait girls.
These guys are both very good charter captains. I think they're both based in Snug Harbor, RI.
Captain Al Anderson - http://www.netsense.net/~prowler
Captain Dave Preble - http://www.earlybirdcharters.com
When are you planning to go? Fishing there won't start to get good until early May.
i grew up fishing in RI and I recognize "Prowler" as a boat that's been around a long time. He'll know where the fish are and not just stripers.Quote:

check out some boats out of Pt.Judith RI.
im sure there are some good ones. im no help, sorry.
I would recommed heading out to Block Island, RI. Killer fishing out there. There is a fast 30 minute ferry from Pt. Judith, RI which is close to CT. You can even pick up charters in Pt Judith that head out to Block Island.Quote:

Here is
a page with some fish charters
Block Island is a killer place.
Hey, thanks. Some pretty helpful replies (iceman and dave can sit back down, thank you--AK Powder needs a map). Suit, I'll PM you.
I grew up in Rhode Island and did a bit of fishing, mainly off of Beaver Tail in Jamestown for Stripers and Greenwich Bay for Flounder. Never got too out to sea too deep as my vessel was a 10 foot Achilles with a 5 HP motor and I never did any charter trips. As for Block Island I highly recommend going down there too, the largest Great White Shark ever caught on a rod and reel was caught about 20 minutes off the shores there, something like 16 feet long!! Beautiful area and the ferry ride is enjoyable. You will love it.
