It's going great, although it's kind of embarrassing to walk around with. Also, it makes my pants not fit so good.

Huge participation (around 85% in the first turn). The electorate is still shaken by the qualification of far right Le Pen for the second turn of the 2002 election. I had to wait 40 minutes to vote in Paris, when it usualy take 5.
Both candidate are refreshingly unconventional by french standards :
Nicolas Sarkozy is the closest we got to a Tony Blair or Aznar. Tougher stance on security and immigration, lighter rules for the economy and labour, less taxes... Described as agitated and authoritarian by the left. A unconventional conservative, who promise more 'laissez faire'.
Ségolène Royal is, well, a woman. She easily qualified as the socialist candidate, agaisnt a strong opposition. Wants a more 'participative', direct approach of politics. The right, and some in her own party, says she's not up to the task, not prepared enough, especialy when it comes to foreign affairs.
Last night TV debate has been won, according to all the polls, by Sarkozy. Royal didn't disapoint though. I think she actualy surprised those who thought Sarko could eat her alive in a face to face debate.
I naturaly tend to vote to the left, so Royal is my natural candidate. But I tend to agree with those who find her a little unprepared to the job. I, like many others, loved the idea of Ségolène (a fresh take on things, a woman, etc...). I'm less thrilled with the actual Royal.... I should probably vote for her.
Anyway, Sarkozy should win. France is a conservative country.
