Caribou Conspiracy: shot on location in remote eastern Canada

It was about 6 months in the making. Getting the reservations early and guessing about the weather were the start of it. Your humble correspondent joined 7 Canadians (six from NB and one from Quebec) somewhere in remote eastern Canada for adventure, fine dining and the making of friendships.

We had some fierce winds for a couple of days but skied anyway. One of those days I thought sure that Caroline would be blown off the mountain, being so light, but as she is also very trim and quite an expert she remained terrestrial. The rest of the 6 days were as perfect as could be wanted.

Tired of Powder?....go play in the Chowdah! Tired of Chowdah?....go play in the Powder! Too tired to ski....might as well be drinking, eating and/or conversing on the finer points of Life the Universe and Everything

We took turns making the evening meals....and what meals!?!

Bonski Productions** collected all our helmet cam, viddy and still photos (well, nearly all the still photos, but we forgive Caroline because she has gone out west to hang out with her sister and EJ)

Fun video - - although I have to say, I did chuckle hearing hip hoppy music while teleturns were being made. Who says only park rats can get their hip hop on?

sworn to silence. Besides, when the organizers started taking names back in September '06 I simply stood up and handed over my share of the hut deposit...sight unseen. Risk rewarded I'd say.

If you know where that place is, you are halfway there. If you don't....well....you might be able to figure it out by deductive methods.

I don't post here all that often so I know only a few....and I wouldn't tell them much anyway.

One more bit of info. I was in softshells most days, but everyone else was shelled up all the time. The area is well known for very high winds so I got lucky...'ceptin' I tore my old Precip jacket skiing in a gale on a tree filled 40 degree descent.

Just to make sure of added value, I scored some perfect corn arcs the morning we left the hut for the long haul back out. We had a round of beers in the parking area and another in the bar and then went our seperate ways. After being reunited with my rental car some 4 hours away from the trailhead, I drove through the night to Pinkham Notch and parked right at the foot of the John Sherburne Ski Trail, arriving there at 5:15AM. (It's frigging scary waking up by the side of the road with the engine switched off and not knowing how that happened...scarier the second time :eek: )

Schlepping up to Hermit Lake took an hour and after setting up for my cold camp in Shelter #6 I scored some Hillman's Highway arcs and got a little carried away with huge GS turns on the Lower Snowfield....paying for it with a triple dinger...somehow landing on my skis after plugging my helmet vents three times. LMAO!

I called it good and watched the remainider of the Son of Inferno festivities from the deck at HoJo's and enjoyed a well earned cigar. Dodges Drop was seeing lots of action and that offered more pleasant spectation.

The following day I scored a very pleasant run in Right Gully, with the skiers right option. Getting to Lunch Rocks I knew I was running on fumes so calling it good was easy.

I was surprized by my enjoyment of the well bumped Sherby. I had been concerned my fatigue and that the overnight pack was going to be an issue...wrong! One of my more pleasant Sherby runs...profound gratitude.

With the Caribou Conspiracy and the two days at Tuckerman Ravine that ammounts to 8 straight days of skiing...not too impressive compared to many. Still, the 8 days skiing sans mechanical lifts had me stretched a bit thin (as I'm chained to a computer for 45 hours+ a week and do p/t retail two evenings). It was a few days before recovery!
