Whistler Bound - 4/7 to 4/14 - We need your help!

Hey there Whistler Maggot's & Magget's.


Bluebird, a non mag, and I will be heading to Whistler this Saturday for a week (so excited). The only time I have ever been to Whistler was years ago for summer mogul camps on the glacier. Bluebird has never been. Whistler/Blackcomb is GINORMOUS (duh)! :) We need the help of an expert!


We would like to know if there are any maggot's/magget's that would like to show us around. We can ski most anything, and will be looking for the steep and deep, no guts no glory terrain.:D We are looking to experience what W/B has to offer. At least one of us (me) will have AT binders, and we don't mind hiking, so we can hike/skin out to terrain (if there is any) where we won't need beacons & probes ('cause two of us don't have any of the gear). Honestly we want to get our butt's whooped so we are hoping someone will give us a killer tour! Just found the link for spanky's interactive map. OMG - so pumped! I am going to be a waste of space at work the next 4 days.


I personally hope to make it one (or a few) yoga classes down at the Neoalpine Yoga center...anybody practice at that studio? How far from the village is that? I imagine that the bus system can take me there.


We will be staying at Northstar - Stoney Creek condos - close to a lot of the bars and restaurants. The post last week about Whistler Apres Ski/Nightlife was extremely helpful. Thanks :tongue: .


By the way - do verizon wireless cell phones work in BC (ones were the service originates in the USA)? Do you pay a roaming fee?


If no one can meet up - can you at least provide us with some advice on what's good and not so good? Willing to part with any W/B secrets (shhhhh we won't tell)?

I recommend heading straight for the peak chair and then hiking to Flute, up the symphony chair after that and then go for a hike to Oboe. That will do the trick for you.

The snow is still major deep and real good. It is an incredible season this year. Plus you will get a free concert or two on your last day because the Festival starts on the 13th.

Yes that is in Function Junction which is about 5 minutes by bus from the village.:)

Good choice! I just stayed there last week. The condos are nice and the location is great. Right across the street from the marketplace with plenty of restaurants and the IGA store.

There are two versions...so be sure to get the "Advanced /Expert" version.

W/B is just plain huge...TONS of fun spots, and good snow can usually be found somewhere.

Hey, this is off topic but what comp is the footage from the first video on the website in your sig? The second huck in Diamond Bowl looks insanely bigger when you see someone hucking it than not!

By the way, pray for a change in the forecast for easter weekend, because it looks like it's gonna suck as of now:fuckyou:

As of last Sunday, pretty much the whole mountain was crusty, with up to 10cm of fluff on top (probably the lightest snow I've skied at WB this year). Recently the ticket has been to stay up high. Be sure to check both mountains, but I'd recommend sticking to Blackcomb on weekends and holidays. There were some pockets of soft left in Spankey's and in the shade on Glacier chair. If its busy, or the snow is better lower down, head to Garbanzo on Whistler, or Crystal on Blackcomb.

Things to try and avoid: Symphany is pretty flat, and usually overrun with gapers. May still be worth it to access Flute Bowl.

Another recommedation for the guide book. I'm new to w/b this season, that book easily halved the time taken to get to know the place, probably even better.

Yes, Secret Bowl, etc. was great when I was there.

I be there same time leaving tonite and staying till april 10, my spot is Crystal Lodge , the only thing is I go SOLO and wanted to do exactly what you guys looking for accept when you alone and you don't know the Mtn. is a little difficult to find that unbound terrain. Let me know what you think and if we can hook up on the slopes or apres. Apres sounds great anyway ! Hope to see you in Whistler.

We will definitely be game to meet up. On the hill it will be the blind leading the blind, but that happens. Will you have internet access?

I don't have much info to add, but have fun guys!! I loved that place!

FWIW, Flute Bowl was mostly untracked when I hiked out there on a Sunday 2 days after the storm. Very worth the 10-15 minute hike IMHO.

get it line buddy, i've been here two seasons and i haven't skiied with her yet. two seasons! i hope the forecast changes by the time you get here, not looking too good right now.

I'm definitely looking for more people to hook up with for ski and apres. I've been here for the last two weeks and have been extremely fortunate to have had postman, bigtrubs, and rugbydave show me around the two mountains and way beyond. Props go out to them in a major way.
Unfortunately as has been mentioned, things aren't looking good for the next few days. Although at least the rain isn't going to hit as was predicted over the last couple days, but you never know.

We made it! Kokanee is flowing and we are getting stoked for the week. Weather looks soft at the very least with some small accumulation early in the week. Either way we are going to be limping out of here.

Shoot us a pm if anyone wants to show some east coasters the way.

To all the fellow EC'sters, enjoy the snow....It sounds like it is going off.


ps. double trouble ski bag came through huge. 3 pairs of skis and two sets of poles, no problem for that beast.
