I just had to do a system reboot and i donwloadd Media player (i think it was 9.0)
It is playing all my videos in obnoxious colors and i can not see a thing. Is there a setting I can do to get rid of this or should i remove the program.
I can not find it when i go to remove programs in the control panel\any advive would be help ful
i would just do a system restore and not update the media player again. also i would stop using media player cause it blows ass, winamp owns. to system restore go start>programs>accessories>system tools>system restore, then select the nearest date available.
To remove Windows Media Player on any flavor of XP:
"Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs", then click the "Add/Remove Windows Components" from the menu on the left-hand side of the window. Scroll down to the bottom and UNCHECK "Windows Media Player."
You never *really* uninstall Windows Media Player from a Windows-based system per se, it still loiters around. However, may I suggest Windows Media Player Classic? It's a stand-alone media player that is super lightweight (doesn't take up a lot of memory or CPU), and is so functional, you'll pee yourself a bit:

Right click on the file, "open with" will allow you to "choose a program" from the drop down list. Should be able to change default to something else. I like WMP Classic(you'll need some codecs, though. http://www.free-codecs.com/ Bookmark this great site!) over VLC. Just a matter of preference, though. Try 'em both. WMP will be just an unpleasant memory. Download Real Alternative/Quicktime Alternative so those programs will be memories, too!

Also, what mmmthmtskier said about right-clicking (you may have to hold down the SHIFT key while right-clicking) and selecting "Open With...", then choosing WMP Classic or VLC from the list is correct. Your videos and crap will have the traditional Windows Media Player icons, but will still open with your media player of choice.
Like I said, WMP is never *really* gone when you've "uninstalled" it. =(
what are codecs?
Codes are "Any type of format used to compress a file to a smaller size. MP3 and WMA are examples of codecs." Basically if a file uses a codec to compress a movie or video file, you need the same codec to play that particular file. VLC Player has all of the codecs built in, so you don't have to deal with installing individual codes. It simplifies everything.
