So I need some help on finding a good air purifier. My place dosent have a HVAC system so the air is pretty stag, the ceiling fan can only do so much. And my range hood dosent actually vent the air out, it blows it back in the kitchen....so it consequently smells like tai food from 4 days ago. :fm: :fm:
Got any good recommendations $100-$300? Anyone used the sharper image ionic ones?

I have the Health Pro Plus. It sounds like the Compact Plus would do the job for you. The Plus models have an odor control filter that works really well. Whenever my downstairs neighbors cook, the smells waft up into my apartment. My old neighbors weren't too bad, but the new one had something horrid in the oven last week. My filter saved the day. It's been great for keeping dust down and works like a charm for the horrid pollen season in Tahoe (everything turns yellow). Admittedly, the IQ purifiers are really spendy but they're worth the extra coin. I've been really, really happy with mine.
Nice, thanks for the input but the IQAir HealthPro Compact Plus= $679...I don't have enough in my coin purse for that. Plus the pollen in Montana isn't bad...

I just bought an Allen air purifier. $400 and the reviews I read online said it was really effective for the price. The ionic breeze things gets really shitty reviews. It has only been a week so I can't tell you for sure.
The trick to HEPA is to price the replacement filters vs. the price of the unit, minimize that, and then get the biggest fan possible for quietest operation.
If you really want to play with ions, get a big ozone generator like the ones from Mold Kill:

(side effects may include ageing of rubber and plastic materials, but the neighbors won't be sending their roaches over)
